She married her husband, Coinneach O’Connor, after the death of his first wife. The man had two sons already, and they brought Siobhan O'Connor into the world together. Janine wanted to get along with both sons, but Sebastian O’Connor, the oldest, hated her and Siobhan for getting involved in their lives.
Always having the need to help others, especially through teaching, Janine knew she wanted to be a teacher. She teaches biology at Kingston High School. Janine is incredibly proud of her step-son Ren for helping through being a police officer, thankful that he turned out to be a good man.
Because of the loss of her step-son Sebastian in the Departure, Janine has started to organize benefits in her spare time to help out the families who lost people in the Sudden Departure.

Thank you for sitting down to speak with us. We’ll try to go through these questions as fast as possible, as easily as possible. This is just to see if there are any similarities between those who were left behind. “No, thank you. I can do as much as I can to help but—” she cut herself off before she could call them as a bureaucratic bane.
How many languages do you speak? Pressing her lips together, she slowly admitted. “I do understand Korean when spoken.” Replying with more ease, she added. “And of course, as I’m speaking it, English is my native language.“
What is your family like? Did you spend time with them often? “Right now, I have a daughter and son with my husband.” Another hesitation. “I do try my best to spend as much time as I can. But you know,” she tried to add a light chuckle-like tone to her voice. “The older, it’s not as easy. But back home, I’ve my mom and brother.
What do you do in your spare time? She knew perfectly well that this was a serious, hell, governmental affair, but Janine couldn’t help but release a light giggle. "Work never ends when you’re a teacher. Between marking assignments and quizzes, I try to be involved
Are you a religious person? What religion do you practice? "No, well, even though my parents were firm church goers. For the most part, that has stuck with me even with scientific training.”
Did you lose anyone in the Departure? Biting her lip just slightly and nodding, she replied with a strained, almost throaty whisper, a slight version of choking up. “Yes, my son — step-son — Sebastian.” A pause, deliberating whether to withhold or not. “And a paternal second-cousin, possibly removed, but I’m not close with that side of the family to know for certain.”
Where do you believe the Departed have gone? Do you think the Departed are in a better place now? “I can only hope that Sebastian and the others are doing alright. I try not to pay any mind to speculation. Nothing has really stuck out as solid.”
