ooooooh man that’s tough. i think interesting is such an Interesting words bc it covers a variety of sins.. interesting doesn’t necessarily mean Good or Healthy but it doesn’t necessarily mean Bad or Unhealthy either… it also doesn’t necessarily indicate romance ……

i think carmy/sydney is the more Objectively interesting dynamic bc theres a lot going on with them when it comes to sydney’s idolization of him. the way they work well together but he also can’t help pushing her away. the fact that she works so hard at this thing that seemingly comes naturally to him. the fact that she has a very profound love for cooking that i don’t think he has (carmy only started cooking bc of mikey and he seems to hate it a lot of the time. a true never make your hobby your career situation). i think with or without romance carmy/sydney is very compelling and there’s a lot of rich places to go with how their relationship develops. in my dream world carmy leaves the restaurant to sydney’s charge and does his own thing making illustrations and being a stay at home dad (his children can be claire’s or sydney’s or someone else’s idk. this desire is based on my experience interacting with a stay at home dad who is a former chef who got out of the game bc of the stress and is much happier not doing All That).

anyway that’s carmy/sydney But. speaking Not objectively i like sydney/richie’s dynamic more. he’s grieving and very stuck in his ways when we meet him and he thinks she’s kinda amusing but also Dangerous to his way of life. he’s old and angry and very very useless, and she can’t stand that about him. it’s very “im losing my edge/the kids are coming up from behind” a la lcd soundsystem where he is losing his edge and she is one of the aforementioned kids coming up from behind. i also think that richie is kinda a safe place for sydney in a weird way: she has a lot of hidden anger and negative feelings that i think women are often forced to suppress, and sydney is able to experience them around richie bc she dislikes him so much that she doesn’t care What he thinks. and that’s Sexy.

and then!! in season 2!! that all Changes too!! bc w/ richie stepping up to the plate and being more vulnerable and actually Trying and also looking Hot and smelling Good, sydney is starting to see that maybe there is more To him than just shitty track suits and an obsession with chicago fun facts. and i think that whole dynamic is Also sexy

hello oh my goodness thank you for sending this and saying all of this!!!! i really like hearing that people appreciate my stuff even across fandoms bc i fandom hop so frequently lol. also i try very hard w/r/t maintaining character consistency so it’s nice to hear that it comes across :)

to answer your question i do ship jeffannie but unfortunately i don’t have a real interest in writing for them :/ tbh this is because the perfect jeffannie fic already exists and it’s “guess what we’ll discover” which i have bookmarked on ao3. but i appreciate your faith in me!!!!!!!!
