I don't actually think that Nancy wants Jonathan visiting her in Boston or meeting anyone from her life there, for reasons I've already enumerated, but I do think that if anyone there met him, they'd very quickly be like ohhh, that explains it, I get it now, that's her deal. More so than the reverse.

On that note, how many kinds of eye-fucking do you think they have? I have to imagine several. All of them perceptible to the innocent bystanders in their vicinity.

She's introducing him as her friend Jonathan from home because she doesn't want to deal with people's questions and she's become very private, and it doesn't matter. Not one person thinks "friend" is anything but a very loaded euphemism.

She sees someone from the paper who’s asked her out a few times in a restaurant with Jonathan “my friend from home” and after like five seconds, he gets it. And honestly, he feels relieved not getting in the middle of that. Because who would want to deal with that?
