That's exactly it. Retcons are always a hard sell for me to begin with, and the changes they're asking me to buy feel particularly ridiculous. I also really am not a fan of the whole "they all went to school together!" thing generally (and especially in the same grade—I dunno, it's trite) and tend to find it uninteresting and poorly developed/used, but I especially feel that it adds nothing in this case and in fact detracts from their established themes and dynamics.

Also I just can't swallow that for Ted and Karen especially.

It's not that I don't want Nancy to be happy or think that she could never be happy without Jonathan or a relationship. Headcannons can really be a double edged sword. On one hand, I think we should all be encouraged to find our own readings of art, even if they don’t line up with the creator’s vision. I think it’s lovely to find connection with a work as well, and you can definitely see that with specific interpretations.

But, sometimes . . . Sometimes it feels like people are straight-up ignoring what the work is actually trying to say. And that can lead to some very binary ideas that I’m very much not a fan of.

#this has been on my mind a lot recently #i’m specifically vaguing about a work’s theme being that gender norms and roles are bullshit #only for several members of that fandom to completely bypass all of that commentary in a way that just encourages the norms even more!#maybe the point isn’t that one character is an ‘exception’! maybe it’s just because toxic masculinity is a vicious cycle!

Every once in a while, the sentence “A Netflix live-action Gundam film starring Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo” pops back into my head and I start laughing my ass off. Why is that a thing. Why must we live in this reality.

Tbh I get the feeling that S5’s lack of (non-technical) Emmy nominations stemmed less from the quality of the show and more from Shawn Levy’s dumbass comments in 2022. But also, the Emmys pick favorites and nominate them over and over again, even when they suck ass (looking at you, GOT Season 8). Stranger Things was never much of an Emmy darling, even at its peak, making it easy to quietly pass over as the quality’s gone downhill.

“The costume designer said she made El’s wetsuit like that to show off Millie’s figure!” Uh, no. If you actually watched the InStyle Interview with Amy Parris, she says that about El’s training outfit. Specifically the midriff section, and not the entire thing. The wetsuit was plot-required (so not on her), and was optimized to prioritize Millie’s comfort.

The timestamp is from 2:49 to 4:35. Have discourse about it if you must. There’s plenty in the season to spark some. But can we not spread misinformation at the very least?
