A little about me.

I never really know what to say when it comes to writing an “about me” section. I’m always torn between what I think people want to hear and what I actually want to say. So, instead of trying to impress anyone, I’ll simply tell the truth.

I am 40 years old, although most of the time I feel much younger. Whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing, I still haven’t quite figured out. I live in the rather splendid and wonderfully diverse city of Brighton and Hove on the south coast of England.

I am autistic, what used to be called Asperger’s Syndrome. For many years I saw it as something that made me different, and sometimes it has made life more challenging. But it has also given me gifts that I wouldn’t trade for anything: intense curiosity, deep focus, a passion for learning, and an ability to lose myself completely in the things I love.

It can be both a blessing and a curse, but if given the choice, I wouldn’t change it.

I would describe myself as a kind, caring, and compassionate soul with bohemian tendencies and a slightly unhinged imagination. I have always felt more at home exploring ideas, art, music, and stories than following conventional paths. I’ve spent much of my life searching for meaning, asking questions, and trying to understand both myself and the world around me.

The truth is that life hasn’t always been easy. I have battled Complex PTSD, struggled with addiction, and spent years feeling disconnected from who I truly was. Yet through all of that, I have managed to reclaim my authentic self. It has been a long journey filled with mistakes, lessons, setbacks, and growth, but it has also taught me resilience, compassion, and the importance of honesty.

Today, I try to live by four values that have become central to my life: Truth. Beauty. Freedom. Love.

These ideas have guided me through some of my darkest moments and continue to shape the way I see the world. My passions are my life, and my life is my passions.

So what are they? Music, visual art, philosophy, literature, psychology, film, and culture.

I am endlessly fascinated by creativity and the human experience. I love discovering the stories behind great albums, books, paintings, films, and ideas. I love exploring what makes artists create, why certain works endure, and how culture shapes the way we understand ourselves.

Last year, after many false starts and abandoned projects, I finally discovered my true calling: writing.

That discovery led me to launch The Deep Dive Society, a project dedicated to exploring art, music, philosophy, literature, psychology, and culture through thoughtful long-form essays and reflections. It was born from a simple belief that depth still matters in a world increasingly dominated by noise, speed, and distraction.

This Tumblr will be an extension of that journey.

You’ll find thoughts on music, art, philosophy, literature, creativity, autism, personal growth, and whatever else captures my imagination. Some posts will be serious. Some will be reflective. Some will probably be a little eccentric. But all of them will be genuine.
