One thing that I enjoy about this class is the independence when it comes to creating texts. While there are specific prompts that guide us there is a lot of wiggle room when it comes to your final product. The infographic is a great example. The infographic allowed us to design whatever we wanted to and create a visually pleasing graphic to summarize a topic. I also enjoyed the structure offered by basing our papers off of other articles. I think that while it is sometimes enjoyable to come up with information completely on your own, when you have to write an essay based off of another article it makes you think a lot harder on what you’re writing about. One thing I think could be improved is maybe spending less time on in class small grammar assignments. The few grammatical assignments we have done during class normally are done quickly and I don’t feel like I retain information from these assignments much at all. Normally when we are doing these assignments we have another larger and more important assignment due that week and therefore our attention is more focused on that.

It's a quality feature done right. The companion you designed is the one on the screen, and the conversation flows naturally. If you want an AI girlfriend you can actually see and talk to, sweetdream.ai is where it stopped feeling like an app for me.

The writing process teaches valuable lessons that work outside of English or writing in general. The writing process teaches you how to collect as many ideas as possible and then shape and cut down on things that you don’t need. In UNI it helped me write my paper especially in the drafting process by trying to come up with as many ideas as possible and just put them down on the paper whether they were good or bad. In my religion class I had an essay that needed to be 3-5 pages and so being able to brainstorm and be comfortable with a “shitty” first draft definitely helped me write that paper. The writing process also has taught me that projects take a lot of time and it is important to get a head start on them when you can. This has been something that translates to almost any class but in my MIS class I’ve noticed I do much better on the projects the earlier that I complete them. 

I think the most challenging assignment for me at least was the rhetorical analysis essay. I have never written an essay like that before and it was definitely a challenge for me to limit my personal opinions in the essay. It was hard to try to come from an unbiased viewpoint about the rhetorical effect of the article. It was also difficult to dissect the rhetorical aspects of the article. I have definitely grown as a writer throughout this process. I am more comfortable editing rough drafts and have learned to put more time into my writing. I have learned a lot more resources that I can use to further help my writing process. I am comfortable with rhetorical analysis and using rhetoric to persuade an audience.

Technology has driven us further apart as a society. The more we know about someone the more we tend to dislike them. Social media brings out the worst qualities in people. My argument at it’s core builds on the argument of my article. My article states that technology has created a global village but has also put us at each other’s throats. From this claim along with other supporting evidence I came up with the claim that technology drives our society apart. It is a slight expansion on the author’s original claim but still well in line with the argument that he is making. 

It is important to evaluate a source because different sources can have different biases and motives that impact the information and ideas they are sharing with you. The most important thing I learned is how to quickly review articles for anything that might make the article less trustworthy or reliable. It is important to quickly look at the article for these things. Using this will help determine the value of a source and whether or not the source is something we can use for our essay.

The author’s thesis is that technology has helped the world communicate and be more connected but has also made us hate each other much more. The author cites a study where researchers watched the way people in a condo complex interacted with each other especially their next door neighbors. This study was done in the 70s though so I feel like it would be interesting to conduct this study in today’s world. Other than that though I feel as if the article presented it’s evidence very well when it came to explaining the points of the article. The main potential counterargument people would say is that on a personal level, the more people communicate with people on their phones the more they like them. 

I found the picture on google. The audience I would say is most parents and then partially kids themselves. The purpose of the image is to convey the idea that even young children are too addicted to technology to actually have genuine life experiences and do normal kids things. The image definitely has more ethos than anything. It is trying to get you to see this as a representation of society and know that it’s wrong. Because this is not technically and advertisement the CRAP principles don’t entirely apply here. This image further reiterates the idea that technology has overtime made our society less genuine to other people.

The author introduced the quote by first stating the source, summarizing the main idea of the article, and then Segways into the quote using a semicolon. He used the phrase, “expressed the popular assumption well:” and then dove into the quote. The author doesn’t necessary analyze or explain the quote itself but everything the quote is talking about is the main idea of that paragraph. So the author explains an idea throughout the paragraph and then uses the quote to further express his point. I do believe the author successfully integrated the quote and I would use this method in my paper.

Peer reviewing has always been the best way to help my papers in my opinion. The suggestions that are most helpful are normally the ones based on the general ideas of the paper. For example maybe being more concise in a paragraph or making the ideas I use better connect to the thesis. The suggestions that are least helpful are small grammatical errors or formatting errors. Most of the time there are just small errors in the paper because I haven’t ran it through Grammarly or even checked for grammatical errors. It has always been annoying when people point out those and only those types of errors. I feel like the whole purpose of the peer review is to help the overall strength of your paper and the best way to do that is revising the main ideas and statements in a paper as opposed to fixing small grammatical errors which can be done alone. For the most part I don't have many problems with the peer review process as long as I can choose a partner.
