I have already seen a couple of ways in which my writing has improved this semester. I have already used knowledge that I have gained in this class outside of this classroom and even outside of school. A specific example includes when we were going over how to analyze sources and make sure they are reliable/credible. Around the same exact time, I started to write mar research paper for another class where it was extremely helpful knowing how to analyze sources. I even used my improved writing process outside of school when I was editing my resume. I found it much easier to simplify the details on my resume to keep it at only a page in length, but still have as much information as possible. 

My writing has improved this semester in many ways. Simply being able to create an outline and start an essay comfortably means that my writing has improved. The different revision techniques have given me much more confidence with my writing as well. 

When I created my rough draft for my infographic, my primary claim was that robotic nurses have a very ling list of benefits for the healthcare industry but there would still be many issues involved with integrating these robots into our hospitals and other medical centers. I then went on to include a few pros and cons including how robots would be able to reduce the nurse shortages around the world but they also lack a reliable set of ethics which would mean highly uncertain interactions with humans. My goal was to expand upon the article I read a few weeks ago, Here Come the Robot Nurses, by remaining unbiased in my evidence but still trying to make an argument. 

The most important thing that I learned from HTWA’s chapter, “Evaluating Sources,” would be that there are a lot more things to consider than just the writing itself when doing research. The reader must consider different aspects of the writing including who is the author, what is their credibility, who is the targeted audience, and does the author show any bias? This knowledge definitely changes the way I will read articles in the future as I will continue doing research on the author to make sure they are credible and the information given is factual. From now on, I will always double check. 

Counter Argument: The use of robots in the medical field is too much of a risk considering the cost and the possibility of taking peoples jobs. This could end up doing serious damage to the medical industry including the people that work there and the people that are treated there.  

Above is an infographic I found that relates to my article about robotics in the healthcare industry. I found this infographic on a website called MedTech Intelligence in the economics section. The purpose of this image is to list both the advanced technologies and their benefit to our healthcare system. The audience is everyone just as everyone should care what is going on in our hospitals. This specific infographic focuses on a logos appeal as it focuses more on the statistics like the amount of revenue will be produced and the amount of costs that will be reduced. Granted, this was found in the economics section. When it comes to the organization of the infographic, it does a great job with its contrast as the colors give it a kind of theme and all the font is the same and the perfect size. The infographic also uses other principles of design like repetition, alignment, and proximity to make it easier to get their message across. It also advances my understanding if my subject by listing all the different kinds of robotic nurses and all the different uses for them. Previously, I had no idea how large this list was. 

The way the author introduced a quote into their own writing was super simple and yet super efficient. The structure is very notable as the author informs the reader of any background information, introduces the quote, and then explains why the quote is relevant. The author was super successful in integrating this quote because she includes credibility to support the quote even further. 

The article I decided to read was about the increased use of advanced technology and robots in our health care systems. The author used all three rhetorical appeals arguing for and against the use of this technology. The author used logos to emphasize the amount of money could be saved with the use of robots but also how many jobs could be lost. The author used ethos to support their arguments with doctors and professors, some who were for and some who were against the use of this technology. Finally, the author used pathos to emphasize the possibility of these robots taking over jobs that are hard, unfair, and undesirable for humans. The author also used pathos to appeal to the emotions of the people who could possibly lose their jobs to the introduction of these robot nurses. 

So far in my academic life, learning how to write hasn’t been very prominent. There is some advice that would stick with me and it was given to me by my freshman year English teacher. My teacher would make our class write almost every day and he would emphasize that writing is a skill that needs to be practiced. We would have mini writing assignments everyday and he would constantly give us tips and tricks on how to improve our writing. Some of the advice included reading our writing out loud, how to revise our writing, and how to use imagery and specific adjectives.  

Going into high school, I did not feel comfortable at all thinking of the idea of writing an essay that was more than three paragraphs long. I did feel comfortable reading but still did not like the idea of writing down my thoughts on the book. By the end of high school, I had no problem reading books or with writing essays, though I did struggle with discovering techniques and practicing skills to further improve my writing. My only purpose to read and write is to receive a decent grade, but I am looking forward to changing that opinion.
