DIALOGUE DE TISSUS ⟠TISSUE CONVERSATION
English translation below
đȘ Two pieces, two stories, a thousand meanings
It all started with an old sweatshirt belonging to my brother. Passionate about sewing but still searching for what truly inspires me, I wanted to give him a unique birthday present: transforming the sweatshirt by incorporating wax print fabric, a material he already loved and which holds strong symbolic value. While customizing it, I became aware of the richness of the stories that clothing can tell. The hoodie, created for American workers in the 1930s, has become, over time, a symbol of freedom, identity, and creativity, particularly thanks to the hip-hop movement, which has made it a cultural and social manifesto. On the other hand, wax print fabric, inspired by Javanese batik and adopted in West Africa, is a fabric laden with meaning, history, and pride. For me, it represents African heritage, resistance, and creativity, now being reinvented by a new generation of designers. By blending these two worlds through the reverse appliqué technique, I wanted to create a dialogue between two powerful stories: that of hip-hop and that of wax print. Each stitch, each color becomes a silent message, a way to express who I am and what I want to convey. I created this project with love and freedom, as a celebration of the cultures, roots, and emotions that inspire me.
Peace and love to you all âŁïž  (ĂŠ)
