Okay so what I want to talk about is Totheark and how I think that both Masky and Hoody were posting on it to get Jay's attention for different Reasons.
Regards, operator, deluge, impurity, exit, program, advocate.
These 7 TTA entries are all focused on different varieties of codes. The words and sentences don't really have much of a full meaning, anything that's deciphered and put together is something like a riddle. "Look closely." "Always watching." Or just codes and numbers. There was always some sort of pattern and most of the time, Hoody, is trying to keep Jay interested and to keep going.
Then, Jay meets up with Tim. He talks to him about Marble hornets, about Alex, about Brian.
Then, he gets Brian's address. I suppose most people think that Hoody gave him that address but I don't really think so. I think Masky gave him that address because when Jay goes to the house, he gets the coughing fit.
Later TTA uploads the footage. That's the first time we see TTA use a present footage, not like in exit where it was footage from the past. The "SEE YOU" is in my eyes just an effort to copy whatever Hoody was using until now along with the slowed down audio of "Brian, Alex."
Then signal happens. And that's something AWFULLY different from what Hoody was doing earlier. Jay is told to come back to the house, that someone will be waiting there for him, and so he does and MASKY is there.
In my opinion, Masky is trying to scare Jay away so he'll stop with his stupid investigation and leaves it alone while Hoody is persisting he'll continue so he can find out what happened to Alex.
I don't think Hoody is there physically during early S1. We don't see him on camera, we only see Masky alone at all times. They're not working together. I don't think they even could - Masky was just gone and Tim was going to school/to work normally until Jay approached him about everything again which made Masky jump back into action. Hoody couldn't just come back to his normal life in his damaged state, so I think that he was just in rosswood and keeping an eye on Alex. He couldn't do anything alone, so he waited and when Jay came along he leached onto him.
Right, so messages - that's Hoody's entry. That's Hoody copying what Masky did instead. It's like a little game of rage baiting, really.
"You have been keeping secrets."
"Smile for the camera." And a picture of Tim appears. Really, I don't think that Hoody would be so petty without a reason. Masky doesn't cooperate with him so he calls him out for it.
Return is from Masky's POV. He's been seen in Jay's house before. The reason why he'd record and post him getting attacked by the operator is because again, he's trying to push Jay away. He doesn't remember these moments so he's reminding him of how dangerous this is.
Then version is uploaded and it's again hoody being like "yo, no, hold up there's so much more you need to learn and to know!" Again, pushing Jay to keep going.
Attention is to ME meant for Masky from Hoody. "Return to us" yeah. I don't think I need to explain too much because Hoody is very demanding of Masky working with him throughout the entire series. He's calling for him, he wants his help.
Admissions... Is kinda 50/50 for me because I can see Hoody returning to his house just to shoot the video because he needs to keep Jay's attention and also to show himself a bit more. The message "there are doors unopened" also sounds more like him so I'm going to go with it. It can always be some old footage of something happening in the house because Hoody is shown to have multiple old tapes.
"stay home." "Be alone." "Regards." This is Masky departing from being directly involved with TTA. From that point on, none of the entries could be - in my opinion - assigned to him.
Till now, there was a tug of war between "stop doing this" and "keep going." After warning, it's always just .. "keep going." From that point on, it's only Hoody.
Masky does work with Hoody later on, obviously, but he never returns to the channel directly.
Important to note - Jay WAS about to quit. He was about to just leave it all behind. That's what Hoody couldn't allow, and suddenly he gets a weird text that's later revealed to be a date. What happens on that day? Alex and Amy get attacked by the operator.
Here comes my favorite HC/theory I have - Hoody put the camera in Amy's closet on purpose, knowing she'll find it and the consequences that will follow.
In order to keep Jay going, he needed to show him that Alex is alive. In order to drag Alex back in he had to lead the operator right to him. Jay now has a new goal in mind, Alex finds out about the channel - everything starts up again and Hoody isn't alone, won't be. From that point on, there was no going back.
(ALSO, no. Neither Masky or Alex burned down Jay's apartment. There's literally news in the background, a report is being said out loud. It was an accident. Jay thinking someone is after him is showcase of his paranoia getting worse along with his mental health.)
Tldr: I LOVE the theory that TTA wasn't a one man project at the start. It wasn't two people working together. No, it was two people working on different things. It was hoody communicating with both Masky and Jay.
