not even joking this is one of the worst possible changes that i could've reasonably conceived of to happen to video games.

having thought about it this is a generationally anti-consumer announcement that will have a profoundly detrimental impact on consumers and retail markets. this will price out new consumers even more than a $600 PS5 and $80 games will. this will make games less accessible and more nickel-and-dimed. this will make games impossible to share irl without giving your console up, and will stop institutions like libraries from being able to loan copies of modern games. and most importantly, it will be for a minimal profit, as most of the sales in video games are already digital.

this is such a staggeringly catastrophic piece of news that i'm shocked it wasn't said by nintendo. congrats to sony for one-upping them in anti-consumer practices.

"can you be a fan of a video game you havent played" discourse is stupid, because plenty of people who played the game have some of the dumbest fucking takes ive ever seen

I really don't understand the correlation between "player will play as an older Cal Kestis" in Jedi 3, and fans assuming that means Cal will be as old as OT Obi-Wan Kenobi or Old Snake in the next game. Cameron Monaghan is only 32, so I'm thinking (if the rumours are even true) that there might be a 10-15 year time jump from Survivor at most.

Also, might be an unpopular opinion, but I really don't want to see Cal and Merrin with kids in the next game. It just doesn't seem like something they would immediately jump into after Survivor, at least not without some substantial reasoning, which I don't think the next game would be able to pull off convincingly, given how much character development would need to happen between them off-screen first. Cal training Kata as her mentor/adopted father feels a lot more plausible, though I really hope we won't be forced to play as her, since I didn't care for her much in Survivor.
