“I haven’t told them yet. I was hoping you and Leslie could be home when I tell them? Just so I have everyone’s support.”

“I’ll be there, and I’m sure Leslie will too. I’ll drag her there if I have to, I’m proud of you Ella. Now I can hook you up with the cute girl at the grocery store.”

“I’m sorry for everything I’ve ever said–you’re squeezing me too tight, Jackson.”

“Don’t apologize dummy, I’m proud of you! Oh sorry- Have you told mom and dad? What about Leslie?”

Leslie flipped on her kitchen light and immediately regretted her actions. She squinted at the tall figure of her brother and kept her water bottle held up high. “W-What?” She was confused, very, utterly confused. “When did you… how did you? The time is…?”

“It’s like one in morning.” He said, acting calm, as it if were normal he was in Leslie’s house at one am. “We were out of cereal at home.” He said, trying to think of an excuse to be there. “I really just wanted some cereal, so here I am.” He laughed nervously.

“Wait- Ella. Oh my god! Yeah, you’re gay. Yeah!! I’m so proud of you.”

Leslie had fallen asleep not long after Jackson had seemingly left her house. She had been hanging out with her younger brother a lot recently. Not that Leslie was complaining but she found it odd that he wasn’t at their parents house in the evening for dinner and whatnot.

“Hey Leslie!” He said, looking up from the ground where he was picking up the broken glass. “I just came to say hey, um I dropped this bowl. No big deal I’ll pick it up. You can go back to sleep if you want. I’ll pick this up and everything will be a-okay.” He rambled, pushing himself to his feet. “Were you going to attack me with a water bottle?”

“You know what I’m talking about…. you we’re right. You’ve always been right.”

“About... the thing? Or?”

“–i don’t know….. I don’t know anymore. I’m just so frustrated with myself, Jackson. I can’t take it anymore.”

“I don’t- What are you talking about Ella?”

“You know, returning to work after recuperating from major surgery isn’t as fulfilling as I thought it would be. But, then again, why did I even think it would be fulfilling?”

“I’m sure mom and dad will let you take it easy for a while. Dad might be old but can still feed the pets for you.”

“Jackson –please. You’re a horrible liar. I’m sorry to break it to you but you’ve always been a horrible liar. You get that from dad. I needed you the other night and you weren’t here. The cereal joke is the worst.”

“I’m here now Ella. Are you okay?”

“What? No, I’m not moving in with Leslie. She’s gross. Her house is dirty, I was helping her rearrange it. Duh. I haven’t been home because I’ve just having lots of sex, being a whore you know how I am. Dad’s jokes are the best! My favorite is the one about cereal.”

“I mean, It’s 2045, I don’t see why not because I mean, don’t crazies put kale in their milkshakes nowadays?”

“That’s so gross Ella does that, it tastes like healthy.”

“To each their own, I guess. There are far better things to eat.”

“Don’t tell me you hate popcorn too.”

“Someone with very sad, lonely nights is my guess.  You should have thrown some at them while they were walking away…”

“True, what do they eat on movie nights? I should have, you’re right.” 

I stuck jalapeño juice in their’s once. Same person every time.

That’s genius. I might get fired if I do that though.
