“That’s good. Did you end up needing surgery or anything?”

“Just some stitches in my leg and the break in my arm was a clean snap so I just got a cast.”

“I’m sorry–what the fuck are we talking about again?”

“Harry Potter! C’mon dude, get with the program.”

“ They were the only good thing about that book. Scorpius is just too cute. “

“You’re damn right. Although, I heard the actress who played Hermione in the play was superb.”

Birch is not quite sure why he can’t leave the restaurant; even after his shift is over, his feet don’t move. Perhaps it’s because it’s the one place he’s getting familiar with; the place he’d been dropped off at and set up with a job before his guardian and mentor disappeared with an urging for him to stay put. As if he’d be back. Or maybe it’s his eyes, cold blues, drawn to the door of the Italian restaurant– As if something were out there.

Sebastian made his way out from the restaurant after a nice and relaxing meal with his sister. He was texting his mom to tell her about the days events not long before bumping into someone. “Yo man, I’m so sorry. You alright?” he asked after regaining his balance.

“Alright, thanks for the advice. How’s your leg?”

“Always happy to lend a hand. It’s pretty decent. Getting better, no doubt.”

“Do I want chocolate ice cream or a coffee milkshake? Seriously, I need help.”

“I personally like coffee over chocolate but whatever floats your boat.”

“How exactly is one supposed to avoid their godfather who also happens to be their boss?”

“Fall off the face of the Earth, of course. Why are you avoiding him?”

“I’m actually not supposed to be making pancakes at my job but I do it when my manager isn’t in and the costumers love it and give great tips. I literally live on tips, dude. I don’t know how I’m gonna survive.”

“You know, returning to work after recuperating from major surgery isn’t as fulfilling as I thought it would be. But, then again, why did I even think it would be fulfilling?”

“Tell me about it, I can’t even flip a fucking pancake!”

“ Here, why don’t I give you a bamboo fork and we’ll call it even? “

“...fine, but aren’t bamboo forks almost a little useless because they’re so big and can’t puncture like, anything?”

“Really? You know, not a lot of guys likes to do it. Which is silly because it’s one of the activities that I like most.”

“You just haven’t met guys like me, I personally like shopping. Especially for Hawaiian shirts.”

“ What job relies that much on a single fork? Shit have it. It’s cheap anyway. “

“With competition with Russo’s, we’ll need all the forks we can have. Plus, I was already caught giving away free fries once.”

Iris groaned inwardly. She didn’t know how to say what she needed to without giving away sensitive information. She wanted to help, she really did. The boy reminded Iris of her brother and she already felt horrible enough that she hadn’t been able to protect anyone during the actual attack. So she tried again.

Sebastian raised an eyebrow. His mind was all muddled and his train of thought kept taking wrong turns. The pain throughout his body started to nearly deem unbearable and he scrunched his face in agony. 

“That’s so gross Ella does that, it tastes like healthy.”

“Ella isn’t even real to me anymore. I think I feel the pain that your father does with all of these vegetarian horror stories.”

“And how are you at it? Better?”

“I am one of the best shoppers I know if I do say so myself.”
