The fight isn't over yet (part 5)

You opened your eyes, you were going through clouds, you were falling, you were falling in the sky, that meant one thing, you made it, you managed to open the door, you did it, you saved them. You were still falling and you tried to fly but couldn’t there was no strength left in your body. But that didn’t matter, you did what you had to do and you saved them. You close your eyes, you’re so tired, the little strength inside of you left. You keep falling until you feel something hold you. You open your eyes for a few seconds, it's Kara. She’s safe, you did it, nothing else matters. You black out after that.
You wake up, you don’t know what day it is or how much you’ve been gone. At first you can only see a white light, you blink a few times until you realize you're at the DEO. You look at yourself, in where there was a wound there is now a bandage, you also noticed how your clothes are different. You look around, only to see no one around. You try to use your super hearing, it fails at first but then...
‘What is it Clark?’ you hear Kara say clearly annoyed
‘I’ve done a scan and i found a piece of those ships, a capsule i think ‘ your uncle said
‘the aliens are still here. Not all of them, but some managed to land before we sent the ships back to space’
‘Wait, if they are still here, why haven’t they done anything yet? it’s been weeks’ A voice that sounded like Alex’s said
Weeks?! How long have I been in this bed?!
‘We should go investigate and stop them before they decide to do anything’ J’onn said
You stopped listening and got up off the bed. Shit you sat back on the bed, you looked at your leg. It was bandaged, now you remember, you were stabbed and exposed to so much kryptonite. You took a deep breath. Ok I got this, I can do it. You got up once more and managed to walk slowly towards the door. You walked slowly through the halls getting very confused and concerned looks from some agents. But that didn’t matter, you had to reach the others so you could end with those aliens once and for all. As you got closer to the room you were able to hear the conversation again.
‘Kara, we need Supergirl to do this’ you heard Alex say
‘No, you are more than enough, you don’t need me’ you mom responded
‘Kara, Y/N will be fine if you’re not with her for a few hours, you’ve been next to that bed for weeks, you need to disconnect for a while, get some sunlight. I’ll be next to her all the time and warn you if anything happens’ Lena explained
You pressed your body on the door frame, the walk really did tire you out, that’s maybe why you didn’t notice the noise you made by supporting yourself with the door. All the heads in the room turned towards you.
‘Little one!’ Kara super speed towards you and was about to hug you tight until she realized that you had gotten out of bed. ‘What are you doing?! You have to be resting!’ She said
She didn't buy any of it and picked you up.
‘I swear I’m fine this is not necessary’ you yelped while she held you.
Lena walked towards you and hugged you very gently
‘Oh baby we were so scared’ she said, you could feel her crying a bit
‘I’m sorry, but I’m ok now’ you said. You weren’t ok tho, your leg hurt and the rest of your body too but that didn’t matter. Those aliens did, they were a threat to your family, to the kryptonians, to the ones you’re supposed to protect. It was funny how, some weeks ago you wanted nothing to do with using your powers or dealing with aliens, but now, now those were the only things that mattered to you.
‘Supergirl, I hate to break this moment but, what do we do about the aliens?’ Brainy asked
Kara looked at you and then at the rest.
‘Superman and J’onn should go and investigate’ with that Kara turned around with you in her arms and took you back to your bed in the medbay. Lena looked at the rest apologetically before following her.
‘There you go’ Kara said, laying you back on the bed softly. You, however, had other plans and quickly sat up again.
‘What is going on with the aliens? Why aren’t you going?’ you quickly asked
‘That is nothing that you should worry about’ she explained.
You furrowed your eyebrows but before you could answer Lena stepped in.
‘ I just checked her vitals and she should be able to finally go home’
Kara nodded and tried to pick you up again but you moved.
‘Jeju, I can walk, it’s ok, you don’t have to carry me everywhere’
‘Y/N, what’s the last thing you remember?’ she asked seriously.
You thought about it, the last thing you remember was falling into the sky everything from there was black.
You got out of your thoughts.
‘Umm, the last thing i remember, I remember getting to the ship and fighting the alien and then opening the door and…’
‘falling into the sky’ Kara said
‘Yeah cause that’s what happened, you jumped and almost died!’
‘Kara enough!’ Lena said. ‘Let’s go home, we’ll talk there’
You both obeyed Lena, Kara didn’t even doubt and carried you again. The atmosphere was really tense, you didn’t want to admit it but you were not feeling well, even if you had supposedly spent a lot of time under sun lamps (supposedly cause you don’t remember anything about it), but you weren’t gonna admit it. The only thing on your mind were those aliens. It was as if the energy and anger that took control of you and that helped you save your family was taking control again. But this time, this time it was different, because that sensation didn’t come from love or the necessity to save anyone, it came from anger and revenge and hate. Those were feelings that you didn’t experience much and that you weren’t sure why you were experiencing them. Lena, she was probably very disappointed, Kara would have definitely told her how you literally kicked her out of the spaceship, but she was also very worried and concerned and definitely holding back her disappointment because of Kara. Kara, the happiest and bubbliest person that you had met, she was incredibly mad, she almost never screamed at you and you weren’t quite sure why because you saved them all. But she was definitely not happy at all.
Once you got home you sat on the couch, refusing to go to your bed and sleep since you had just woken up. Lena sat next to you while Kara went to the kitchen to grab some water.
You turned your body to her, giving her all of your attention. She held your hand.
‘You must know that the spaceship invasion was three weeks ago’
You froze, three weeks?! You had been sleeping for three weeks?! Wow, that's a new record.
‘When you fell to the sky, Kara grabbed you and took you to the DEO, where they had to induce you in a coma to be able to treat you’
You looked at her and then down and then back at her. WHAT THE FUCK
‘you should also know that the wound in your leg will probably leave a scar. You were infected with a lot of kryptonite. I am not sure how to say this so i'm just gonna say it’
You nodded, she took a deep breath.
‘Baby, you almost don’t make it’
You didn’t know what to say, you had imagined that already, you hadn’t forgotten how you managed to get out of that spaceship and you knew how close you were to be trapped there, but hearing it made it all different.
‘Oh’ was the only thing you could say.
Lena moved closer and hugged you hard.
‘Well, I didn't, right? I made it’ you said
Lena let go of you and nodded. At the same time Kara walked in and handed you a glass of water. You smiled at her but she didn’t smile back like she would have done. Instead she sat on the couch in front of you.
‘Ok so we need to talk’ she said, breaking the silence. Lena moved her eyes from you to her and you did the same.
‘Is this about the aliens that are still on Earth?’ you asked.
‘No, and from now on you’ll have nothing to do with them’ she replied
‘What?Why? I wanna help’ you complained, the need to stop those aliens still being your top priority.
‘Cause you’re not ready’ she stated
You furrowed your eyebrows, what did she mean? Had she forgotten how it was you the one who stopped them, had she forgotten how you were the one who had saved everyone or maybe she had forgotten that you were literally the protector of all kryptonians? Lena was confused too, she had planned with Kara the talk you were all supposed to have but it was never supposed to start like that.
‘What do you mean I’m not ready? I did it, I sent the spaceships out of the atmosphere’ you replied getting frustrated
‘and you almost died!’ she harsly screamed, moving her hands to her head.
You looked at her, confused, yeah you almost died but you didn’t, you’re still here, besides it’s not like she hasn’t ever been about to die before.
‘I didn’t die mom. I made it’ you replied coldly.
She took a deep breath before looking you in the eyes. The crinkle appeared once more in her forehead.
‘You’re right, you didn’t die but let’s think of what you did do alright?’ You could see the anger in her eyes. You were terrified, you had seen Lena angry plenty of times and it was definitely not nice, but Kara, she was a whole different thing. You had never seen her like she was right now, you weren’t even sure if anyone had seen her like this.
You slowly nodded, not quite sure of what to do.
‘Ok, well first you disobeyed me when I clearly told you to stay at the DEO’ You didn’t know how to react, yeah you had disobeyed her but it was only to save them. ‘and then you fought a bunch of aliens! And then, oh, then you didn’t have enough and flew to the spaceship! I thought that you were gonna help me and I was ok with that until you kicked me out! You got in and kicked me out!’
‘NO’ she interrupted, ‘You pushed me and locked the door, you fought them alone Y/N! We don’t do that! We fight together! But you wanna know the worst part?! The worst part is that you were aware of what you were doing, you knew the consequences, you knew that you could die! FOR FUCKS SAKE Y/N YOU ALMOST DIED HOW COULD YOU BE SO STUPID’ she screamed.
You didn’t know what to say, Kara had just cursed, you had never heard her curse. Lena was also frozen.
‘I was doing what I was supposed to do’ you mumbled knowing she had heard you.
‘What you were supposed to do was to stay in the DEO’ she replied quickly and aggressively.
‘I am meant to protect all of the kryptonians, so that’s what I did’ you replied back.
‘That includes you too!’ she yelled
‘It is bigger than me’ you said
‘Oh please, since when do you give that much importance to saving the world?! A month ago you wanted nothing to do with it!’ She fought back
‘Since I realized that is what im meant to do! And if I have to die to do it I will!’ you yelled getting up, with tears in your eyes.
‘ENOUGH’ Lena screamed being done with the argument. ‘Y/N you are grounded until we say so’ she said seriously
‘But’ you were about to reply when she cut you off.
‘NO, as much as you saved all of us you you disobeyed us, so go to your room, your mother and I need to talk’
You looked at both of them not believing what had just happened. You walked to your room, closed the door and simply laid yourself in bed not quite believing what Kara had just said.
‘Are you out of your mind?!’ Lena screamed.
‘Look I know that what she did was bad, that she shouldn’t have kicked you out but you were too harsh!’
Kara sighed ‘I had to be!’
It was Lena’s turn to sigh.
‘Look, she needs to understand that this is not a game! She could have died that day Lena! She was in a coma for weeks! So, what is gonna be the result next time she decides to play the hero, huh?!’
Lena walked towards her wife and held her hands.
‘She was told that she had to protect all of you, she was told it was her mission. Besides, she is our kid. Did you really think she was gonna stay away from all of this for so long? I’m not saying she shouldn’t be grounded for disobeying and not thinking but we must explain it to her’
‘Why are you always the smart one?’
Lena simply chuckled and hugged her wife.
‘I was just so scared, I still am’ Kara admitted bringing Lena closer.
‘She was willing to die and I just, I can’t lose her’ Kara wanted to continue expressing her feelings but the tears coming from her eyes made it impossible for her.
Lena let some tears fall too. They both stayed there, holding each other.
‘It will all be ok’ Lena whispered after a while, breaking the silence.
Kara nodded. Lena broke the hug slowly and caressed Kara’s cheeks with her hands.
‘Let’s go talk with our baby’
They started to walk towards your room. Lena held Kara’s hand while doing so, it always calmed both of them down.
-Back in your room- (this was happening while they were at the living room)
You were sitting in your bed, tears streaming down your face. You had stopped caring about it, you didn’t mind how terrible you looked. You had your face covered with your hands and your mind full of the things Kara had said. “What you were supposed to do was to stay in the DEO” You were supposed to stay back, she knew your powers are stronger, she knows the title you now hold, but she still told you to stay back, like if you couldn’t help in any way. “HOW COULD YOU BE SO STUPID” That’s what your mom said, she had never said anything like that, but she had now. You tried to help and you made it, but she thought you were stupid for doing so. Was it the first time she had thought that? or maybe she already thought it and your actions gave her prove? Were you really stupid? maybe you were, for thinking they would be proud. “Cause you’re not ready” You aren’t? It’s true, not that long ago you wanted nothing to do with superheroing, but still, you had trained everyday of your life. Since you got your powers you have worked constantly to contain them and control them. She had seen you train strategy with Alex, she had teached you how to fly, how to use your super strength,... but she still thought you weren’t ready.
You raised your head from your hands and looked up at the ceiling, closing your eyes once more, trying to contain your breathing. You simply listened. It was something that you had always done, when you were nervous, afraid, frustrated,... you closed your eyes and just listened. You paid attention to whatever your ears focused on first, the steps of an old person walking in their home, the sound of a car, the birds in the park,... this time it was the sound of the water of a small fountain. You were almost calmed when your ears started to listen to something else. It made no sense at first, until it did.
They found out about us, we must do it now.
We still have some kryptonite left.
That’s what they said. You didn’t think about it. You got up, opened your window, ready to get out and stop them. Then you stopped, Kara was right, you weren’t thinking you were just acting. What were you gonna do? It was only you and you weren’t in your best moments physically. You could warn her, tell her what you had heard. But if you did she would handle it and tell you to stay out of it. She wouldn’t want you to get hurt. At that moment you understood something crucial about being the ‘Knight of Krypton’. Holding that title meant being stronger than the rest, it meant being faster, having more resistance. But it also meant having more control, it meant thinking before acting as something crucial. Until that night all you had done was act out of fear. You kept running and pushing and fighting without thinking what could happen. You couldn’t do that, you needed a plan. A plan that would allow you to use all of your abilities, a plan that would protect the others without your death as a consequence. What you think was your instinct kept telling you to go through that window and kill them all. That was coming from the fear, the anger and the necessity of revenge inside of you. But you couldn’t follow that path, it didn’t have a nice ending and you were aware of it.
There was a knock on your door, then you heard how it slowly opened but you were too busy deciding what to do.
Your back was facing the door so you couldn’t see their faces, you couldn’t see the marks the tears had left in their eyes and cheeks.
You finally made a decision.
You felt something hold your hand. You turned around and saw them. The two people that loved you the most. Lena was the one holding your hand, Kara was next to her but a little bit behind, looking at you with shy eyes, full of regret. You didn’t give them a chance to speak.
‘The aliens are gonna attack, they’ll do it as soon as possible’
They looked at you confused, not expecting that at all.
‘They will use kryptonite, I just heard it’
Lena looked at Kara and Kara looked at you.
‘I am gonna go and stop them. I know the risks but it is what I have to do’
‘If they have kryptonite is too dangerous’ Kara said
‘I know your position in this, you’ve made your point clear but I will not stay behind if that’s what you're asking me and I’m not asking you to do it either cause I know you won’t. I’m asking you to come with me’
With that you walked past them and went to the front door. You opened it and left.
Then you flew, you flew as fast as you could. But this time felt different, cause this time you knew what you had to do. You followed the voices until you arrived at a little cave in the middle of the closest forest on the outskirts.
You looked around, it was the middle of the night, everything was dark, the only thing that allowed you to see was the little light coming from the cave. You were gonna walk in when they arrived.
Both Supergirl and J’onn were now next to you. You looked at them, he nodded at you and started to inspect the entrance of the cave. Supergirl looked at you as if she wanted to tell you something but you didn’t let her, instead you followed J’onn.
You three walked into the cave slowly. It was longer than expected. You walked in silence inspecting every detail of it. It led you all into a big room, it was lightened with torches and you could hear the aliens working there. With your x-ray vision you were able to see what they were making. A kryptonite bomb, it was so big that it could affect the whole city, but only the kryptonians would be affected by it. You looked at Supergirl and she looked at you. J’onn did a signal, you all knew what it meant. It was time.
You all flew into the room, J’onn went straight to the bomb while you and Supergirl fought all the aliens. Surprisingly there were more than what you had expected.
Supergirl went to the left and you went to the right . Even if Supergirl had more experience in fighting than you, you were so much more effective. When she knocked out one you had knocked out three. Your powers had taken over you but this time it was different. This time you were letting them take over you. You were letting all that anger, all that fear and all the need of revenge out and you were using it, transforming it into something useful. You were so immersed in fighting that J’onn had to repeat himself twice before you were able to hear him.
You punched the alien in front of you before flying next to him.
‘The bomb is really unstable, it could blow up at any minute’ He announced going over the controls next to the projectile.
You looked at your mom, she had heard him but had a lot of aliens around her fighting her. She couldn’t help. At that moment you lost all the confidence that you had. You had no idea what to do, Kara was right, you were not ready, this was too big for you.
‘Ok, I’ve established it but it won’t last for long we need to get rid of it’ J’onn exclaimed
‘Can’t we turn it off?’ You asked
‘ I don’t know how and we don’t have the time’ J’onn explained.
You were about to ask him what you were supposed to do when more aliens entered the cave and attacked him.
‘No, get rid of the bomb!’ he shouted when he realized you were going to try to help him.
You looked at the bomb and then at your mom, she was still fighting some aliens. She punched one in the face and it threw him towards the closest wall, then with x-ray vision she hitted other three. At that moment she turned her head and looked at you. ‘I believe in you’ she said, knowing that you could hear her even with all the fighting going on around you two.
You took a deep breath, think Y/N think. Ok, the bomb was full of kryptonite and it was gonna explode soon, you had no idea how to turn it off and there wasn’t time to figure it out. You had to get rid of it. But you had to take it somewhere where it could explode without causing any damage. The explosive wasn’t very big and it didn’t look very heavy, you should be able to carry it, but where?
You realize what you could do, you had never done that before and it was somewhere your mom had always told you not to fly to. It was dangerous but it was the only place you could think of. Fuck it
You grabbed the bomb and held it close to you with your arms, you couldn’t let it fall and hit the ground cause it may blow up. It was heavier than you thought. Meanwhile Supergirl was knocking out another alien when she saw how you took off and flew out of the cave.
You flew, you flew up, higher than you had ever flown. You flew as fast as you could. When you were breaking through the last cloud in the sky the bomb in your arms started to beep. Slowly at first, but then the rhythm of the noises became faster and faster. You were running out of time but you were still in the atmosphere. You had to hurry.
Back at the cave J’onn and Supergirl had managed to take all the aliens down.
‘Where did Y/N go?!’ Supergirl asked
‘She took the bomb with her, she’s gonna get rid of her’
‘What? We have to go then’
Kara was about to go out of the cave when J’onn stopped her by holding her hand.
‘No. There’s nothing we can do. It’s in her hands now’
‘Do you know where she’s going?!’
Supergirl looked him in the eyes. After some seconds he nodded.
‘There’s nothing we can do and you know it’

You were starting to feel the need of air. You kept going, you kept flying, higher and higher as fast as you could. The alarm of the explosive in your arms was just a background noise at this point. You felt the cold air against your skin slowly fading away. Then you feel nothing, you couldn’t feel the air, you couldn’t hear anything, you were floating but you were making no effort. Those things could only mean one thing, you had made it, you made it to outer space. You looked behind you, you weren’t too far away from the atmosphere but it could work. You then realized how the alarm in the bomb in your arms was going so fast, you could tell thanks to the little red light (cause you couldn’t hear anything), you had to hurry thi wasn’t over yet. You threw the explosive as far as you could and just when you did it exploded. Surprisingly, you could feel the kryptonite it expelled. That was when you remember all the wounds you had from the last fight. Pain was the only thing you could feel at that moment. With the little strength you had left you managed to impulse yourself back to the earth’s atmosphere. You had to use almost all the energy you had left since flying in space is something you had never done and your human side was begging for oxygen. You, however, made it. Slowly you descended until you entered the atmosphere. Once you felt the air again, once you could hear the sounds of the cities and of life, only at that moment you felt at full peace.
You had made it, you had saved your family, you had defeated the aliens, you had proven everyone who ever doubted you. It’s true you almost died in the process and now that you think about it your moms were probably right about some of the things they had said. But nothing worries you now. You closed your eyes, right there in the middle of the clouds while the sun rose. Hearing the calming noises of nature. You stayed there, without thinking, just feeling.
After a while, you don't know how long. You descended, you couldn’t hide in the clouds forever even if you sometimes wished for it. Before flying you listened, you listened to Kara and Lena’s heartbeat, it didn’t take you long to figure out where they were, they were at the DEO, but you also noticed one thing, both heartbeats were incredibly fast. You had to return.
You arrived, some agents stared at you, you asked them were your mothers where. They replied and you went where they had said.
You opened the door and saw all of the Superfriends there, doing nothing, simply staring at each other, waiting for something. You soon realized how that something was you.
Kara was the first one to realize you were there and also the last one to do something about it. She just stood there, remembering all the things she had told you. Lena, however, didn’t hesitate, she went straight to you and wrapped you in the tightest hug you’ve ever gotten.
She didn’t say anything and neither did you. You both simply hugged each other while you felt her tears fall. After a few minutes she let go of you but she still had her hands pressed to your arms. A gesture that everyone in your family had gotten used to.
‘I know you did, you are our savior’
You chuckled. She hugged you once more.
‘I’m so proud of you, my baby girl is now a hero’
‘That doesn’t mean I’m no longer your baby girl’
This time it was her who chuckled. She then tightened the hug
‘If you ever do something as stupid and as dangerous as you’ve been doing lately without even asking me first you will be in so much trouble’
You froze, she kissed your cheek.
‘And I hope you understand that you are still grounded’
You nodded (since you didn’t have the strength to argue with Lena Luthor at the moment). After her it was Alex, then J’onn, then Nia, Brainy and Kelly who hugged you and congratulated you for what you had done. (No one said anything negative since they knew you would already have more than enough with Lena’s punishment).
It was only her left, Kara. You looked at her and she looked at you, she then walked slowly towards you until she was right in front of you. You improved your posture and stared at her, still a bit angry about what had happened.
You both stood there, in complete silence
You furrowed your brows. She took a deep breath.
‘You were ready. I’m the one who wasn't’ she said
‘What do you mean?’ You asked
‘I- I wasn’t ready to see you fight. I’ve always known that you were more than prepared to fight. This doesn’t mean you won’t have to train tho. I will make sure you train double as hard from now on’ she said
You laughed, nodded and looked at the ground.
‘But you did great. I, on the other hand, didn't. I should have supported you, I should have been there for you. But, when I saw you fell and then on that hospital bed. I thought I had lost you and, little one I can’t lose you’ she said between sobs.
You looked into her blue crying eyes, then you hugged her. She was surprised at first but hugged you too, carefully and softly not wanting to cause you more pain than your wounds already were. After some minutes you realized Lena was the only one left in the room, watching you both from the distance with a big smile on her face.
‘Come here mom’ you said, moving your hand.
She nodded and walked towards her two favorite people in the world. She hugged you both.
‘I’m glad you two are good again’ she said
‘Yeah me too’ you replied. As a response to your answer Kara hugged you harder making you wince in pain.
‘Ok, I hate to break this moment but you need to go to the medbay’ Lena said, breaking the hug.
‘Alright then’ Kara said, picking you up once more.
‘You really don’t have to carry me. I can walk, you know?’ you replied but she didn’t let you go down
‘Nope, you already did enough young lady’ she said. Both Lena and you laughed.
You went to the med bay where you were healed from your wounds and a few hours later you were finally back home. You moms obviously made you stay in bed or the couch and took care of you and spent all their time cuddling you. You weren’t sure if what Kara said was true, you weren’t sure if you were actually ready for your role as the Knight of Krypton. But at that moment it didn’t matter, because for the first time in a while, the future didn’t seem so scary. You finally understood that you don’t have to do things alone, you understood that you weren’t alone and that you had never been.
