Mother's Day - society is our child
Mother's Day was awesome for me. I got to spend a beautiful day with my momma, but better yet, I got to see the amazing bonds between women in action. For the first time ever, I saw Mother's Day in a new light. Yes, the holiday is a day to appreciate the woman who brought you to this earth, but it's so much more than that. Mother's Day is a time to show love and gratitude to all maternal figures in your life. A time to tell them that you appreciate them and value them for being the strong woman they needed to be to raise you. Now if you think about that sentence again, you'll see that the day is actually quite revolutionary -a day to celebrate the strength of women and appreciate their value. To my surprise, despite such a day, I witnessed so much hate being exchanged between females. It saddens me that all of this exists and genuinely puzzles me to be honest. Ladies, we should be celebrated. Mom or not, we are all capable of being strong, caring women whom others look up to. I challenge you to act today as though you have a little baby girl looking up to you for an example- watching your every move, seeing your reactions, hearing your comments. Bet some of your actions would change. I know mine would for sure. Now I'm not getting all crazy and telling you to strap on ya mom jeans or anything. I just wanted to have you think for a second...if it were up to you to raise a baby girl would you want her to grow up spreading all of this negativity? Would you want her calling another female fat or telling them they have no brain? I don't think you would. We want our little girls to grow up to be strong, independent, beautiful women, and we do that by example. Society is our child. It's a lot bigger, and a lot more stubborn, but nonetheless, it is our child. Society picks up on habits quicker than any baby's developing brain. It is fragile, easily influenced, and in need of guidance. We can never address our society as a whole and tell them what's up, but we can influence it like we influence our children. Through our actions, strength and togetherness, us females can mold our society into one we are proud to live in. We can show the world that we are strong; we are independent, and we love each other.
Mistakes...
We make mistakes in our life...not necessarily regrets, but mistakes. If we didn't make mistakes, how would we ever learn? How would you know that jumping off a swing hurts when you've never done it before? How could you say you hate pb&j sandwiches if you've never tried one?...you can't. Not really at least. I think we all agree upon that. Now what about making mistakes when we're a little older? If presented with a situation that is foreign to us, even if we're a legal adult, do we really know what's right and wrong? I don't think so. Never dwell on your mistakes, even if you're still making them. I am not too proud to admit that I have made many mistakes in my life, but I don't regret them. They have led me on crazy adventures, helped me grow into a stronger person, and let me see the truth behind many of society's facades. I acknowledge my mistakes and am thankful for who I have become because of them. Think back to the last mistake you remember making...now look at yourself...you're still alive, right? Not looking too shabby. Maybe even a little better than before you made that mistake. Either way, the value of what you can learn from your experience is priceless. You will be a better person because of it. So go ahead, go make those mistakes! Make every damn one of them if you want, but never let anyone put you down because of them. You and I both know that you are a better person because of them❤️
