October 26, 2015: Nine of Pentacles crossed by Eight of Cups
Today I asked my deck what I needed to keep in mind to stay productive and confident as I come to the most stressful part of the Fall Semester/this school year. I received the Nine of Pentacles crossed by the Eight of Cups in response. The Nine of Pentacles is the goal, representing self-confidence, freedom and ease with responsibility. It is a moment at which we can breathe easy, and enjoy the success of all our hard work. It is a reward, a triumph well-earned. Not just about the material in terms of career and money, the Nine of Pentacles suggests that we’re enjoying the peace that comes from being grounded, both physically and emotionally.
The Eight of Cups that stands in my path is a card of heartbreak and reflection. It is a moment when the dark mountain of stress has built up and left us broken to the point where we’re ready to walk away from it all. It is a card about burn-out and failure, but using that failure as a reason to either refocus or change your habits in pursuit of your goal. It cautions us to take a moment to reevaluate what we’re working for, and to decide whether that goal is worth it. If it is, we need to find a more effective way to work, or a new motivation. So that we don’t lose faith or let our heartbreak consume us.
