i really love ur art, your style is so! its so!!!! i come back all the time to look at it

i've looked at zhi jia tao but those seem to be only for the pinky and ring finger plus their purpose was to protect a long nail, while in your art it's visible on the three other fingers and has a more weaponary vibe

so i was wondering if it was based on some real historic thing, or whether you came up with it!

Helloooo!!! so im on my phone so i dont have the exact reference board i used for that drawing, but i will do my best with what i remember:

Whenever I dress Shen Qingqiu I realize I tend to draw him in rather femenine and androgynous clothes lol, I just like those kind of clothes and vibe, and I like him, so thats what I dress him in- and I do love when cdramas use the nail guards they look soooooo sick, so I decided hmmm yes, let's make him look like a scheming rich evil spouse.

Now, in this scenario he would be the spouse of a demon, I figured an accessory that would look REALLY cunt and also make up for the lack of claws and teeth a demon spouse would have would be a set of fake metal claws :P

I can't tell you for sure that anything other than the chinese nail guards (that i did reference on some part, yes!) is really historically accurate in the sense that they were also functional- when I was first coming up with the drawing, for that part I mostly used fantasy costume design references, because as far as I could tell the zhi jia tao don't bend (theyre for your nails duh) and I wanted something more armorlike, the kind of jewelry you see and think That Cannot Be Stable In Your Fingers but somehow it is

It's nothing I came up with! Ive had Shen Jiu using them in my head for quite some time, so when it came time to illustrate it, it was just a matter of looking them up on pinterest to see what everyone else has designed them to look like

To be honest with you I actually don't like the final design for those guards I did 💀 I definitely wanted something more intricate than just smooth metal, but I was so sick of looking at them I just wanted to be done drawing LMAOOOOO
