Whoever ends up bringing back Doctor Who eventually, this is a formal plea to not be a coward and have companions be from other times, places, and planets again. I miss characters from the past who have to learn new technologies. I miss characters from the future who see our time as history. I miss characters from other countries who are proud of being from there. I miss characters from other planets who have zero cultural understanding of our world and have a whole other history of their own. I can’t keep doing contemporary England forever. The only non-traditional companions we’ve had in New Who are Jack, River, and Nardole, none of whom were around much nor did their differences get explored very closely. I need a Jamie. I need a Zoe. I need a Nyssa. Please, anything, I’m begging. Don’t be cowards. 😫
