the fact that r’as consistently forgives talia (particularly pre-2000) drives me nuts. like to be glib he’s such a #girldad but more seriously it’s absolutely fascinating. r’as is an ideologue. he has dedicated his considerable power to his fanatical belief that the only way for the world to be a better place is for the excesses of mankind to be wiped out with violence in order to allow non-human nature to flourish. he enacts careful, ruthless plans in order to further his goals.

and then talia just fucks it up the second she hears bruce is involved somehow, to the point where r’as goes “my darling daughter. i need you to do this for me. do you promise you won’t alter my plans if the detective shows up? because we’re probably going to have to kill him so if that bothers you you can’t do it” and talia (lying to herself) goes “noooo father absolutely not. i’m so over him. i don’t love him anymore at all and i’m fully loyal to you” and then the second bruce shows up talia is out there stopping someone from killing him or freeing him from a deathtrap and she’s calling him beloved again

and when all is said and done in the rubble of r’as’s carefully-laid plans he just scowls at his daughter and she bats her eyes and it’s just back to the drawing board. surely next time she’ll actually choose daughterly loyalty over her crusty white dog of a boyfriend

Insane to me how Bruce would be devoid in a fic and the author would be just, like, "Bruce is around but just not present in this fic right now," but when it's Talia she just had to be tagged as, "Bad mother Talia" or "Bad person Talia" or "Evil Talia".

(i was going to do this for the whole season, not just ep 1 but it doesnt happen so often after the first ep, as ilya's english improves)

added context to the interview, bc i've seen several people mention a lack of articles not being hard (etc.) in the tags:

connor wasn't calling the lack of articles hard but the noun cases that russian uses *instead* of articles! i cut that part off to make the subs shorter & to parallel ilya's dialogue better. if anyone wants to look up the interview, it's from owen thiel's podcast (easy to find on youtube) and i think the talk about connor leaening russian started somewhere between 10 & 15 minutes in! :)
