He wasn’t used to talking with children and especially not in this kind of situation but Carter was trying his best even if he didn’t particularly like kids. This girl was just scared, and likely mistreated there was no need for him to feel any disdain or irritation this time. That was reserved for his younger siblings. Right now all he could feel was sympathy as he worked to stay focused on his mission. He’ll work on asking her questions to get more information, as well as hopefully keep the girl calm.

“they made me here…” she answered him after a moment. “Dr. Sung tried to protect me and help me… she’s gone now.. but she helped me hide a bag so if someone ever came to help me… she said it has everything I might need…”

How the hell did he deal with this? Carter was not used to dealing with children. He didn’t have kids of his own and no one in the family had kids either. Not that he was close with his brothers these days.

“I’m a police officer. I’m here to help. We know all about this place.” Was that good? What exactly did he tell her? He would leave it at that. “We’re the good guys and will get you out of here.” Soon enough. There were still a lot of moving parts going on in the background, people to be dealt with, safety concerns.

Carter had been working late and was ready to call it a day when a new call came through. All hands. There was going to be a raid of a suspicious facility that had been found. Despite his sore and tired body for being on duty for so long the news and preparations somehow perked him up. This is the kind of thing that perked him up and why he made sure his career led him to this path. Little did he know what would await him, how he would be left feeling strangely soft and raging all at the same time.

He rushed and quickly prepared. He pulled on a bullet proof jacket and gathered other equipment. The actions were second nature to Carter at this point years of training and real action had engrained it in him. He didn’t think as he shoved his feet into a pair of sturdy standard issued boots.

He readied his weapons and adjusted his radio. It was time to catch some scumbags. When he was ready he joined others in a designated meeting area for what he had come to call ‘the shit storm report’. An important and crucial step. Everyone needed to know what was going on and what their exact assignments were.

He listened to the run down with a grim face. This was a seriously messed up situation. They moved out to their assigned posts with caution.

Arriving he surveyed the area, nothing called out to him as out of place. But that was enough to put him on edge.

Soon enough he found himself inside, navigating the dark halls. Power had been cut. And that was when he found her. A child.

He wasn’t good with children if you ask him. He hadn’t even been around kids since his own childhood. He had a younger sister a good gap apart in years. But that was the extent of his experience. Still, none of that mattered in this moment.

He quietly radioed in trying to avoid detection as he reported his find. He kept to the shadows. He broke the lock open with a calculated ram.
