My fantastic 5 months have come to an end. Today is my last night in Mexico and tomorrow morning I will be boarding my plane back to Australia.
Every day of this trip has been special in its own way, but here are my personal highlights of the trip:
1.) Nepal is the overall winner. My hike trough the Annapurna region, with its dramatic mountain views and spectacular natural beauty and diversity, is an experience I will never forget in my life. Hopefully not the last time I was there.
2.) Mexican food!!! No doubt, the best of the trip. The diversity beyond burritos has been a touristic highlight in itself ( especially in Oaxaca).
3.) My time travel to Cuba! What a special little island it is. The 50ies flair, vivid street life and fantastic music will never be forgotten.
4.)Every second spent on a Latin American dance floor deserves to be mentioned here. I had almost forgotten how much, I LOVE to dance salsa!
5.) My amazing family reunion in Colombia!!! We are a lot of people who live all over the world and don’t get to all be at the same place at the same time very often. It was a huge effort from everyone who came, but one that was so worth it. One of the best Christmas I have had in many, many years.
6.) Semuch Champey in Guatemala. I am still stunned by the magical view over those crystal clear rock pools in the middle of the jungle. The trip there was completely out of my way, but every second in the uncomfortable mini bus was worth it.
7.) And last but not least my snorkeling trip in Belize. I don’t dive, so I don’t get to see much underwaterlife very often. The day out at caye Caulker with all the colourful fish, turtles, sharks and sting rays was my best snorkeling experience Ever!!!
I am sad to have reached the end of what has been an amazing chapter but I have also been away for long enough, to appreciate to its full extend, everything that I left behind at home (!). Next Stop is Sydney town.

Sailing from Caye Caulker to Placencia. The first night we slept on Rendezvous Caye, the smallest island I have ever been on.

Ragga Muffin Sailing Tours from Caye Caulker to Placencia
Sail away in Belize
On Friday I left for my three day sailing adventure from Caye Caulker to Placencia, on a 50 foot boat, the Ragga King.
Clear blue waters of the Caribbean Sea, island hopping, sun, reggae and rum.
The sailing was smooth because the reef protected the coastal waters from the full force of the waves.
We anchored several times to go snorkeling or spearfishing, at night we camped on tiny islands and had amazing dinner, eating mostly the fish we caught during the day.
This trip has been the perfect closure to my journey.
Yesterday, I spent the entire day on the bus and am now back in Mexico in Tulum, indulging in my beloved Mexican food.
Bye caye caulker. You have been AMAZING

I am in love with Caye Caulker and enjoyed every second here. We went on the best snorkeling trip ever. I wish I would have had an underwater camera but just the pic that I took from the boat gives you an idea.... and yes, we actually jumped in, one second after the pic was taken. We saw sharks, dolphins, turtles, sting rays, Morays... just to name a few.
You better Belize it
Rastas and Reggae tunes - hello from Caye Caulker in Belize.
Things move slowly at the Caye and so have I. One week later, I am still here, unable to leave. I am staying in a colourful little hostel right at the water ( actually there are not many places further than 100 m from the water) and have spent my entire time here snorkeling, swimming, eating sea food, catching up with all the people I met at some point during my trip ( everyone seems to have ended up here) and listening to all the Bob Marley songs I have not heard since high school. It has been a fantastic time!
Tomorrow begins the very last activity before my long trip back home. I will go on a three day sailing trip through the Caribbean, visiting different cayes and camping on islands at night. And in exactly a weeks time I will be waiting for my plane at Mexico City airport. I can’t really comprehend that travel life is coming to an end and the huge physical distance to Mexico is not helping either.
But as Bob Marley has been singing non stop over the past week: “every little thing is gonna be alright…” I will enjoy my last days at the fullest and then look forward to see loved ones at home.

Last stop in Guatemala - Tikal ruins
Gozando Guatemala
The last few days have been amazing.
After a relaxing time in San Pedro, which is a village at Lake Atitlan, surrounded by a gorgeous mountain view, I started the long journey to Lanquin to explore the National Park around Semuc Champey.
Many travellers recommended Zypher Lodge to me, but only once I saw it with my own eyes I understood why everyone raved so much about it. The lodge is rustic but with the most amazing view, close to the park and a good little restaurant attached to it. On top of that I was lucky to meet great people which was a fantastic bonus.
The area around Lanquin and Semuc Champey made it into my overall highlights of this trip. Big,Big Love!!!
After these beautiful few days I was confronted with the worst bus ride of this trip. 9 hours all the way up to Flores, cramped between two boys in the back of a mini van with no air circulation what so ever, all in unbelievable heat.
I will go and check out the Tikal ruins this afternoon and tomorrow cross the border with Belize to get to Caye Caulker.
Guatemala, you have been FANTASTIC!
Semuch Champey is my favourite place in Guatemala and high up on the overall highlight list of this trip. Unbelievable natural beauty, I could have spend a month here.

Before visiting the pools we went on a caving trip in the National Park, followed by a day of tubing on the river.....
The beautiful Zephyr Lodge in Lanquin was our base to explore the National Park around Semuc Chamepy and its amazing lime stone pools.
My time here has been the best in Guatemala and is definitely on my travel highlight list.
