A new literary journal about the intersections of gender & sexuality, power, and virtual space in fandom. (18+)
AMERICAN* FUJO* (18+) is Alexis Rippen & tshirt3000's anthology on fandom culture, trans identity, and general overanalysis. Our project tries to asterisk and complicate its categories of both “American” and “Fujo” as much as possible, interrogating gender and sexuality, power of all kinds, and the virtual communities we call fandom. We asked our contributors questions along those lines: How has being a fan affected your gender or sexuality? How has our gender or sexuality affected how we engage in fandom? Who is a fujoshi, who wants to be one, and who doesn’t get the choice? In America-centric fan spaces, what is necessarily suppressed? How can we trouble the category and dominance of “American” from within and without? Finally, what does it mean to be in a community that’s overwhelmingly virtual, as reliant on digital social platforms as it is on fictional media, both owned by another party? And what affects or acts are uniquely enabled by these virtualized desires and sexuality? Our contributors range from actual self-identified American fujos to writers who are emphatically neither. They answer these questions through illustration, comics, essays, and autotheory, developing creative ways to capture fandom and its discontents. The anthology surveys a wide range of topics, from transgender fujoshism (in any direction) to race and belonging within theoretically progressive fandom. We want to make the full vibrancy of fandom as accessible as possible, and theorize both its possibilities and its limits through this anthology.
oh hey, A*F* is now able to be purchased for nonbackers!
this seems like something a very nonzero number of the people over here would be interested in, so i'm reblogging to promote it here.

drinking water when I have a headache should give instant relief. it should go away. what's even the point of drinking water if it can't do that

more vampires with multigenerational adopted human offspring. they wake up, get the tykes ready for pre-school, beg their preteen not to get caught on their phone in class again (caught being the emphasis, they're a realist), venmo their college kid for "textbook money" (as if they don't teach all their kids how to pirate that shit), have a lunch meeting with their 49-year-old-realtor-kid to discuss the possibility of quietly buying another local warehouse that would absolutely not be used for tax evasion/illegal artifact storage purposes, then spend the afternoon in a bloodthirsty mahjong battle at their eldest kid's (82) snazzy new retirement community
and then after everyone's bedtime they eat people or whatever
YALL. Holly Black has a list of resources she's used for writing her books on the fair folk. I'm OBSESSED. I love her work and world building. it's so true to the heart of faeries
Some other resources that might be worth checking out (not strictly about faeries but related):
The Corpus of Electronic Texts, or CELT, a collection of Irish cultural materials. This includes English translations of Irish myths.
Mary Jones - similar to CELT, and a resource we used for translations in the Irish mythology class I took in undergrad.
An Encyclopedia of Fairies by Katherine Mary Briggs, a British folklorist.
The Folklore of Cornwall by Ronald M. James. Unfortunately this book is harder to access and is often only in university libraries, but if you're interested in piskies it's a potentially very helpful read.
Traditions and Hearthside Stories of West Cornwall by William Bottrell.

a fun little game that bella and edward play is "try to find a song that my 100+ year old music buff boyfriend with perfect recall doesn't know". not only has edward had decades of loneliness way too much free time that he's filled with music, but whenever anyone listens to music in range of his telepathy he hears it through them. he's got so much music in his head
bella starts to hum a tune and sees how long it takes for edward to join in. any genre, any period. the longest she's stumped him is like 3 seconds. she's even tried to make up a song on the spot a few times to stump him, but he's had a song to match. it's almost annoying. almost. mostly it's cute. she glares at him because she "lost" but then smiles and squeezes his hand, every single time
edward loves it because as time goes on it eases bella's shyness and she starts to sing instead of hum every so often. it's soft and quiet and only in private but depending on the song he can even persuade her to keep singing with him. they do a sweet little rendition of "got it together" by lee hazelwood & nancy sinatra.
luckily she never, ever has to deal with the annoyance of having a song on the tip of her tongue because she's basically dating the shazam app

FUCK breaking dawn my homies HATE breaking dawn. In this house the dawn remains INTACT
From 3DBearnadette on tweeter...
okay i looked into this and apparently this isnt even just dracula the wolfman and frankenstein's monster like. they're DESCENDANTS of them who are normal guys who turn into a vampire a werewolf etc. they do this to "atone" for the actions of their ancestors.
this is them normally and they apparently transform by slapping their hands together and shouting WACKO and this is called the "drak whack." dracula is alive too. they call him Big D.
There is no heterosexual explanation for this
I am going to [remembers that jokes about suicide are detrimental to myself and others] Scarborough Fair.
you know that powerful moment in breaking dawn part 1 where jacob overcomes sam’s order and breaks off to be on his own? why didn’t we have him overcome the imprint too?? he could have been the first to ever overcome an imprint!!!! our boy could do that and still respect bella’s choices!!!!!!!!!!
What is Stephanie Myers's problem making her background characters more interesting than the mains. How am I supposed to pay attention to the guy who died from the Spanish Influenza when twins who were burned at the stake for witch accusations are there. Or the 1920s queen who killed her rapists one by one. Or the guy whose father was a vampire hunter. Or the
