Donning a bright purple exoskeleton and red pincers, the Palawan Purple crab is certainly dressed to impress! This unique species of crab was discovered in the island groups of Palawan, Philippines in as recently as 2012, with its purple color as its most prominent feature. As wonderful as their existence may seem, they are actually endangered because of the constant mining activities that occur in their restricted habitat. While efforts have been put forth to conserve this species, there may come a time when it is not enough. You can do your part and help by advocating for the preservation of their habitat in Palawan! Either way, these purple crabs are some of many animal species that contribute to the rich biodiversity of Palawan, and are very much worth protecting.
