Hey look, I did actually like tangled the series. It was fun but I could not, for the love of me finish it because, let's be real it was incredibly and grossly racist. It was so weird for me when I opened the internet and found literally no one talking about the series' racism? Lance is the only black character and he is literally depicted as a thief, even though he redeems himself later. He even tries to lead our dearest male white love interest astray (and don't get me wrong I do love Flynn but still????). The main characters are all conventionally attractive in a white way and most genuinely gut wrenching there was such horribly amounts of racism towards romani people it the show. I'm south Indian myself and descended from the same area that romani people originated from. They speak languages very similar to or maybe even descended from the languages my mother and grandmother grew up speaking in, the language they still speak in over the phone that my mother complains in to her parents and brother, the accent my grandparents' have when they speak hindi. It was an uniquely revolting experience to see this racism particularly and I could not watch past halfway through the second season. The worst part is how you can tell that they did not intend for this show to be racist. These things were born from underlying biases and its possible that the writers would balk at being racist to someone in real life. It possible none of the writers even know romani people are real people who are persecuted everyday and that just makes it much much worse. They could have done just that little bit of research. I don't care if you like the series, it's okay to but please do speak up and against the racism in the show. It's important that people know this sort of stuff isn't okay, even if the people writing didn't know what thy were doing its not okay. What's happened has happened but we NEED writers and people to do better right now and in the future. We need people to make it clear to kids watching the show that these stereotypes are wrong and horrible and harm real people in that culture or of that ethnicity. Please.
