on a similar note to that 'i think a lot of you guys forget people hate women' post; I think a lot of you guys forget how bad racism truly is and how deeply pervasive and entrenched antiblackness is.
Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado and his wife, Lélia Deluiz Wanick Salgado, have been instrumental in reforesting the Rio Doce Basin area in Brazil since 1998. Through their organization, Instituto Terra, they have planted over 2.7 million trees, successfully restoring more than 550 acres of forest and 2,000 natural springs.
Their efforts have transformed a once barren landscape into a thriving forest ecosystem, demonstrating the profound impact that dedicated reforestation initiatives can have on environmental restoration.
A reminder to the "the American government wouldn't..." crowd. They have. They have made their own internment camps before. They have rounded up innocent citizens and immigrants before. The victims of which are still alive to this day and trying to share their stories with the world, they have been trying to warn us for a long time. George Takei (as seen above) is a famous example of this. He has written about his experiences time and time again, even publishing a book talking about his time in these camps. He may be famous now, but at the time he was just another kid forced from his home. To this day he still firmly dedicates himself to trying to educate and inform people, trying to spread awareness with his platform. The American Government can and will do terrible things. Do not let anyone convince you otherwise.
More than 100 unhoused people were bused – under threat of arrest – to an industrial warehouse miles away, dubbed the “transitional center”.
The hastily assembled site had been arranged under a no-bid contract thanks to emergency powers invoked by Landry – who took office in early 2024 – and opened before an unprecedented winter storm that ultimately dumped about 10in of snow on some parts of the region.
The site did not have sufficient cots, adequate heating or even enough blankets when it first began taking in people on 15 January. Unhoused residents who didn’t want to go to the warehouse scattered, some forced to leave behind everything they owned just days before the dangerous blizzard hit on 21 January.
Press, nonetheless, has not been permitted entry to the site. Concerns persist among unhoused people and their advocates about the warehouse arrangement – which is costing taxpayers more than $17m – as the eyes of the world turn to New Orleans, hosting the NFL’s Super Bowl on 9 February and Mardi Gras festivities culminating on 4 March.
Furthermore, the warehouse may be a harbinger of what’s to come nationally as the second Donald Trump presidency’s new housing secretary has refused to rule out government-run detention camps for unhoused people.
Dozens of New Orleanians were bused to a site with insufficient heating and blankets days before the city is to host the Super Bowl

*waking up with a sore neck* where are my goddamn spell slots
given all the rising transphobia and shit, we should remember that white trannies are still relatively safe and will be able to endure more escalation more easily, we're not at the top of any shit list even if we near if, trans women of color however are very vulnerable, and we need to remember they're our sisters, not our shields
It is insane to me that timestamps are optional on this webbed site. A major context clue is just opt in so I’ll reblog something from four years ago and people think it’s happening right just now like babe. Enable your timestamps. Why are you stumbling through the world with one eye closed?
Wait how. I thought they just got rid of them????
You gotta opt in.
Genuinely timestamps unlock some of the best experiences on this website. You get to see majestically ancient shitposts still circulating, still funny, and appreciate that this shit was funny in 2014 and is funny now. And you get to see people flip their lids over nonsense that got resolved five years ago.

I think I love him 🫠
"Don't be a Job Hopper" 1940s Disney WWII propaganda poster
In 1941 Disney animators went on strike after Walt Disney refused to let his workers unionize. The workers were angry about unfair policies on pay and benefits. On the picket line the animators lynched and guillotined an effigy of Walt Disney himself. (lmao i had to re-encode this gif because tumblr blocks it automatically as a banned image???)
someone: so do you have any plans for the future?

One thing from genderqueerdykes recent transmisogynistic screed thats stuck in my mind is the insistence that trans women exhibit toxic masculinity by interrupting people, cause like. The main way that men talking over women manifests isn't men interrupting women (they do that a lot too, but its a lesser contributor). What happens when a man wants signifies he has something to say? Everyone shuts up and listens. What happens when a woman does it? Everyone carries on as if nothing happened.
So what are you to do if you aren't content with simply not speaking, and waiting until social decorum decides it is your turn doesn't work, because your turn is never? You make it impossible to ignore you, social decorum be damned. You interrupt people, you are aggressive and confrontational about getting a word in because its the only way you'll get one in at all.
Feminists got framed as aggressive bitches so often because they correctly determined that your options as a woman are to either not be heard, or to be heard and called an aggressive bitch for it, and they chose the latter. How insidious is it to reframe that feminist practice of demanding your voice be heard irrespective of social decorum as a signifier that trans women exhibit toxic masculinity, are man-like, to weaponize both dysphoria and the language of feminism to shut down transfeminists.

Skip Google for Research
As Google has worked to overtake the internet, its search algorithm has not just gotten worse. It has been designed to prioritize advertisers and popular pages often times excluding pages and content that better matches your search terms
As a writer in need of information for my stories, I find this unacceptable. As a proponent of availability of information so the populace can actually educate itself, it is unforgivable.
Below is a concise list of useful research sites compiled by Edward Clark over on Facebook. I was familiar with some, but not all of these.
⁂
Google is so powerful that it “hides” other search systems from us. We just don’t know the existence of most of them. Meanwhile, there are still a huge number of excellent searchers in the world who specialize in books, science, other smart information. Keep a list of sites you never heard of.
www.refseek.com - Academic Resource Search. More than a billion sources: encyclopedia, monographies, magazines.
www.worldcat.org - a search for the contents of 20 thousand worldwide libraries. Find out where lies the nearest rare book you need.
https://link.springer.com - access to more than 10 million scientific documents: books, articles, research protocols.
www.bioline.org.br is a library of scientific bioscience journals published in developing countries.
http://repec.org - volunteers from 102 countries have collected almost 4 million publications on economics and related science.
www.science.gov is an American state search engine on 2200+ scientific sites. More than 200 million articles are indexed.
www.pdfdrive.com is the largest website for free download of books in PDF format. Claiming over 225 million names.
www.base-search.net is one of the most powerful researches on academic studies texts. More than 100 million scientific documents, 70% of them are free
Reminder that libraries are literally foe this purpose. If you go to a public library with a research question you will make their day.
I want to pet you like an animal...
