conversations overheard through the batkid com lines pt 85 (masterpost here)
*wrapper crunching* *straw slurping*
Dick, absently: moon's pretty tonight.
Damian: *grunt of affirmation*
Bruce: don't get too comfortable; we have two hours until the shipment drops, this is just a temporary break.
Dick: *dramatic groan*
Jason: -can you just for once live in the fucking moment? we have burritos. we're all here together. shut the fuck up.
Bruce, bemused: i'm just warning you against getting too bloated before the mission, chum. i don't want you to get an upset stomach.
Damian: he's calling you fat, by the way.
Dick: *snort*
Bruce: i'm not- i'm not calling you-
Jason: you are though, you're fully calling me fat,
Bruce, resigned: Hood,
Tim, suddenly: -you know what i realised earlier?
*a beat*
Dick, laughing slightly: alright, Tim's just- Tim's just in his own world,
Bruce: don't be mean, and we're still on patrol here. no names. what did you realise?
Tim: i was just thinking about how Jason and Dick are the only two of us that had to find out that Bruce was Batman.
Bruce, sighing heavily: names,
Damian, dry: Father there is nobody within fifty feet of us.
Jason, ignoring him: whaddaya mean?
Tim: like. i figured it out myself and knew before i ever became Robin. Damian's known from birth because it wasn't ever a secret in the league; of the official Wayne kids, you two are the only ones that had to actually be told and 'find out'. Dick, you were told after you were taken in, right?
Dick: *humming* actually, he tried to keep it from me at first.
Tim: he did?
Jason: oh that's right. 'cause you were taken in by Bruce Wayne; i was taken in by Batman. you found out Bruce was Batman, i had to find out that Batman was Bruce.
Bruce: was there really much of a difference? and Nightwing, you found out literal days after i brought you home.
Dick: yeah but not because you told me.
Damian: how did you find out?
Dick, dismissive: oh i just watched him walk into his clock and disappear and decided to follow him. he was not that great at hiding. i'm pretty sure he forgot i was in the building.
Bruce: i did not forget you were in the building—you were my ward, Dick, i knew you would have to know about the Batcave eventually.
Tim: how did you react? were you freaked out?
Dick: honestly it was so long ago i barely remember not knowing, my memories are all fuzzy and mixed up. B, do you remember?
*shifting*
Bruce, considering: you were pretty excitable; especially once you realised i was looking into your parents’ murder. i'd been getting worried about you beforehand, because you were starting to act out quite a bit, and Alfred said you didn't seem to have any outlets to let out your anger, so it seemed like a positive opportunity to let you run around a bit.
Dick: yeah, i remember laughing a lot...
Bruce: kind of 'maniacally'.
Jason: *snorts*
Dick: that tracks.
Bruce, humming in interest: to be honest, i think between the two of you, Jaylad had the best reaction.
Jason, confused: i did?
Bruce, bemused: do you not remember what you said?
Jason: no?
Tim: this is something that B found funny? ok see now i'm interested.
Damian: i actually don't know much about how you were acquired by Father.
Jason, snorting: 'acquired'.
Dick, gleeful: fuckin' great story. all round favourite, by far. good memories.
Jason, dryly: you hated me back then.
Dick: times change, littlewing.
Tim: how did the whole reveal thing happen, then?
Bruce: well i took him home pretty much instantly after meeting him, because it was clear that he didn’t have anywhere else to stay, and i guess i… saw a little bit of myself in him.
Tim: aw,
Jason: eugh.
Dick, brightly: s’ a fun way to say you picked up a strange young boy off the street and dragged him to your weird creepy mansion.
Bruce, exasperated: why must you put a perverted spin on everything i do?
Dick: because it’s how i show my love~
Jason: *snickers*
Damian: surely part of the responsibility lies with Jason, for being confronted by an ominous strange man who offered to take him home, and deciding to just go with it.
Jason: oi- don’t you victim blame.
Damian: well why the hell did you agree?? you didn’t know him.
Jason: i dunno. i figured there were three options, one: he’s genuine and i’m about to live out Annie as the main character, two: he thought i was a child hooker and young-Jason was bouta get paid,
Bruce: jesus.
Jason: or three: he’s a child murderer, upon which- listen i was a bit of a delusional child. like, i thought i could steal Batman’s tires. i fully thought if he tried to kill me that i could just kick him in the nuts and then dart off with a great new story to tell people.
Dick, in wonder: you just did not have any sense of self preservation,
Jason: i had self preservation—i was just tired and he caught me on a bad day, so i didn’t give a shit.
Bruce, cutting in: well- whatever the reason, it was one of the best decisions i ever made, so i’m happy it turned out well.
Jason, amused: mhm, mhm, go on.
Bruce: well to get back on topic; i brought you back to the Batcave and we discussed you spending a few nights to see how you felt, and Alfred came down so i could discuss with him how to go about fostering you and you got to meet him, and then after he left you asked me ‘if that was my carer and if Batman was really just a mentally disabled man that kept dressing up and escaping home’.
Dick: *gleeful cackles*
Jason: alright that does- *wheeze* that does ring a bell,
Tim, casual: you are such an asshole, man.
Jason, very happy: i know.
Bruce: after that i had to explain what was above the Batcave, which obviously revealed my identity,
Jason: i was kinda- i mean, i don’t remember specifics, but i was quite calm about it all, wasn’t i? i don’t remember freaking out.
Bruce: you were, but to be fair you’d already gotten in a car with a stranger and let me take you to the cave under my house, so i think if you suddenly then regained the ability to have appropriate reactions to things, that would be concerning.
Jason: …point.
Bruce: do you remember what you said to me after i explained my identity?
Jason: no?
Bruce: …*amused sigh* you calmly listened while i explained, reacted with nothing, and then you just started echoing what i’d told you.
Jason: right…?
Bruce: you told me, ‘so Batman is Bruce Wayne.’ and i said yes,
Dick: mhm,
Bruce: and then you said, ‘and Nightwing is Dick Grayson’,
Jason: yeah.
Bruce: and then you cocked out a hip, pointed up at the entrance to the manor, and you said ‘and i’m guessing Alfred Pennyworth is the Riddler, because ‘he just has a British accent’ my ass, that old bitch was talking in code.’
Tim: *starts laughing*
Jason: …DID I?!?!
Dick: *wheeze* you- you don’t remember?
Jason: NO?!
Bruce, fond: i remember. i told Alfred after you went to bed that night. i told him that was the moment i knew you were gonna be my kid.
Tim: *wheeze* you know- you know Alfred always told me that Jason was the most difficult when he first came to the manor, and i always thought that was weird because everybody else says Dick was way worse. but now- *wheeze*
Damian: -now it makes sense. you made him an enemy after your first interaction.
Jason: I DON’T REMEMBER SAYING THIS?!?! -i mean- *snort* i’ll take credit, that’s fucking funny, but still. did i have that much trouble with his accent!?!
Bruce: i don’t think it was that you couldn’t understand him; Alfred just has a very traditional and olden-style British accent, and you apparently had been friends with a couple modern-British kids that lived in the alley, because you always used to argue with me after Alfred left the room that ‘they didn’t sound like that’.
*a beat*
Bruce: it really used to bug you for some reason.
Dick, cackling: NO I- NO I REMEMBER- I DO REMEMBER- fuck, Jay, do you not remember one of your conspiracy theories back then was that Alfred wasn’t actually British?! you thought he was fucking lying.
Jason: …holy shit i actually do.
Tim: *wheezes* oh my god,
Bruce: you accepted it eventually, but it took you a while to get there with him.
Dick, eager: i don’t wanna- i don’t wanna hear shit from people about me being difficult when i first got taken in; Jason showed up and instantly started fighting with the sixty year old about how his fucking voice sounds,
Jason, laughing incredulously: i mean- i mean it is a very stereotypical old-english accent?!?! i didn’t think those existed anymore.
Damian: and yet your favourite book genre is old english classics?
Bruce: i think that was what got him to drop it, actually. there was an evening where Alfred read a Jane Austen book out loud to him, and afterwards he came into my bedroom to shake me awake and tell me ‘ok i get it now’.
Dick: *loud wheeze*
Tim, struggling not to laugh: -because the matter was just that important, that he had to wake you- *cackles*
Jason, amused: listen- listen this was clearly a point of great stress for young Jason,
Damian: you weren’t stressed about being taken home by a strange man in a bat costume but the guy’s butler’s accent being too theatrical—that freaked you out?
Jason: i- *wheeze*
Bruce: you were a very fun child to have around, Jaylad. i’ll give you that.
Dick: does Alfred agree with that sentiment?
*a beat*
Bruce: he loves you now, that’s all that matters.
Tim and Dick: *lose it*
There we have it: first page of chapter 2... AAAAND there they are! My goodness... I can't believe it's been almost 10 MONTHS since we've last seen Harry and Draco Malfoy... Time sure does fly fast 🥴

🥰 A new Weasley family pet! Charlie has always been the freak, with his love for dragons. NOW he has some SERIOUS competition in the house! Charlie has dragons. Bill has a FENRIR GREYBACK 💪 A side-silly for my Harry Potter Horcrux comic because I just couldn't stop myself 😂
So it is really starting to seem like that, to these old political out of touch people of power that are tasked to taking care of their citizens. Some are doing this thinking it genuinely helps kids. Yet no one thinks of putting parental controls on a new router out of the box. With 0 invasive permissions to change it through an app. Yet we all know they do not like the idea of 0 invasive ways to protect kids. Yet from the video it is pointed out, some that are not in support must act like it or else they might be labeled as "not wanting to protect kids" with this disgustingly invasive system. Thus fearing not getting a vote. Now here is the irony, if you can get your parents, extended family and neighbors to help spread the word in their local area among public, parks, city/town walkways, corner stores, small convenient stores. As well as Have them mention along the lines of "I will not give my support and will not give my vote if you are in favor of any kids act, verification law, and other monitoring esc law that is under the guise of "safety" " during the call, email, or letter to your senator/representative. In order for the old political out of touch jerkwads to know that we will not vote if they blindly push along with these laws. Also guide your family/neighbor to petitions against these laws. The more you help your family and neighbors be technologically aware, the better it is to maintain basic privacy rights as a person. I know it will be tedious as hell, yet every reblog/sharing links we do already online. We also have to inform the people in our local area in person as much as we can.

I feel like simply calling JK Rowling a transphobe isn't strong enough anymore. Like. This is not your grandpa calling you by your deadname at a restaurant kind of transphobic. This is her wanting to eradicate all trans people (with an extra special hatred towards trans women specifically). This is her trying just that by personally funding transphobic hate groups with millions to push around laws in the UK. It is not hyperbolic to call her a dangerous, genocidal maniac.
It's not about cancelling a problematic writer. It's about literally trying to save lives by denying her as much money and power as possible.
Literally cartoonishly evil.
did anyone see that woman calling churches to see if they'd let a hypothetical child sex offender come to church and they were like "oh don't worry we see this all the time" ... Wym by that
Oh man, you talking American churches? Yeah.... There have been some Changes that I don't think people who weren't raised around here understand exactly what.
So here's a link to Doug Wilson's wiki page , a preacher just getting national attention as Hagseths spiritual advisor. He's actually been running a cult out of North Idaho for quite some time, and as you scroll down to his theology you see that it is representative of the average isolated North Idaho cult, and he seeks to bring 'zion on a hill', or a heaven on earth through Christian theological dictatorship. His work has finally blended East Coast doomsday evangelical America with isolated schizophrenic 'masters and slaves' North Idaho shit. This theology is winning ground. Why is this relevant? Child SA has already been a problem in America and it's churches for a long ass time, but it has been a hidden sin, one they outwardly claim to despise. The new, Idaho influenced version of this cult thinking (remember, he's spiritual advisor to the elite) removes this hiding. In it, women and children and let's face it everyone but white Christian males of his specific type are property. Just as slave owners weren't considered to be 'abusing their slaves' when they raped or tortured them, so it isn't a sin to rape or torture your wife or child. While not mentioned on the wiki, Wilson famously had an instance of child sexual abuse reported to him within his church; an adult man assaulting someone else's 14 year old daughter. His solution was to make the girl the property of the molester to prevent violation of God's law.
This shift that Wilson spearheads and represents is, yes, making child SA a bigger problem, specifically child SA with a religious rationale. 'It's your field, you can plough it if you want to.' Combined with the 'step'daughter fetish becoming mainstream, and a shift in adult males back towards churches that support their fears and insecurities, yeah. Yeah, I bet a lot of churches have those conversations.
please wear sunscreen!!! I've seen "fuck the beauty industrial complex" posts about complicated skincare regimens and am 100% with them except sometimes they mention sunscreen and no. no. absolutely not. sunscreen is a wonderful supportive friend who wants to keep you safe, and you should let her do it. throw out all your other cosmetics and skincare products if you want, but keep your sunscreen. and if you're not wearing sunscreen, start wearing it!!!! this is not about terror of aging, this is not about every tiny imperfection our fucked-up culture has made you feel insecure about, this is about protecting yourself from skin cancer. wear the damn sunscreen.
Danny, after a close call with identities and the league: we have to tell them at some point, maybe they'll understand. . .
Billy holding Danny by the shoulders, trying to literally shake sense into him: Danny. We are two black-haired, blue-eyed, vigillante teenagers. I'm homeless and your parents are actively hunting you. My name is literally Batson. This is no longer just about age. Unless you want to become a rich Gotham kid, you better lie like your life depends on it!
I think mayhaps they have very dramatic, but understandable, misunderstandings about what parenting is supposed to be, and they're running like the wind because they think it involves mindcontrol, or blatantly inedible food, or yes chores but no benefits, or something. Or they're afraid of an adult deciding he can tell them what to do, and they're just totally failing to think about the fact that Batman has the most violently independent kids ever. Danny expects him to be a creep like Vlad with a creepy basement and maybe a cloning pod.
Maybe this is one of those universes where Batman has been hamming it up to the League and pretending to be an actual cryptid entity, and Billy does not want his very confusing maybe-cryptid ("maybe" because his wisdom tells him he's not a cryptid, but he sure seems convincingly like a cryptid, overall it's confusing) work boss to find out he's a kid, because his job is important to him and he doesn't want to get fired in exchange for being adopted.

Performance art is good and listening to people who don't understand art talk about performance art is a unique type of torture.
Which is probably a thought that could be the core of a pretty fun, masturbatory piece of performance art.
Oh. Oh actually. Actually.
Okay, so the name of the piece is "It's what you make of it" and you have a setup that's a cross between a zoltar fortune-teller machine and a crank penny press. The room the piece is performed in has a warning about recording the performance and cautions the viewer to only interact with the piece of they consent to being recorded and photographed.
The artist is in the box, made up as a marionette and the viewer can use pulleys and switches to position the artist's limbs and to change the background and lighting of the box and can type a short prompt for the artist to repeat and act out verbatim.
The viewer has to drop a token (provided as part of the piece) into a coin slot and work a crank to complete the prompt. While the artist is acting out the prompt, the prompt is printed on a photo strip that includes a picture of the prompter (taken by a hidden webcam on the booth). One copy of the prompt and photo is spit out along with the cranked token (which has the phrase "it's what you make of it" and an image of a clown pressed into it) for the viewer to keep, one copy of the prompt and photo is spit out inside the booth where the artist can collect it after completing the prompt.
What the artist is going to do with the photo strip is not explained, the artist doesn't speak or move except as a response to a prompt.
People will prompt the artist to say "this is stupid." People will prompt the artist say explicit phrases, or to swear incessantly. People will prompt the artist to say slurs.
And they will walk away with their prompt attributed to them with their photo and a coin they used their energy to mint into a reminder that the art is what they made of it. And their creation is documented in the hands of the artist as well. What did they put into the world? What did they decide to say when they had a chance to say anything? What were they comfortable saying before they realized that someone would quote them on it? What did they make of it, and how would they feel if their photo was attached to their prompt in a book or video or somewhere that people might see it?
How did they approach the piece? How would they approach it a second time?
Also the artist goes hog fucking wild on the prompts. They're acted out *loudly* and melodramatically with as much emotion as the artist can put into the performance.
And whenever the machine is not in motion the artist is still and vacant, but the performance of the prompt involves as much eye contact and emoting as possible.
The piece is dead and meaningless until you approach it, and as soon as you start interacting with it it should become disconcertingly alive with your intention.
That sounds like an actual, literal nightmare I had as a kid where I fucked up giving instructions to a mimic-biological construct and didn't say anything b/c I didn't want to get in trouble and the construct was killed for not following the instructions correctly.
I absolutely would never want to be put in a situation where someone couldn't refuse my orders.
Well. Clearly as performance it it works already. I need to go drink of a cup of tea about this to stop being upset. I'm sure it would also make other people feel things they perhaps didn't realize they were going to feel.
Marina Abramović, Rhythm 0 (1974)
This post was directly provoked by stumbling across a reddit thread of non-artsy people reacting to Rhythm 0.

kosa update:
it's the time again to start calling your senators to avoid internet censorship, as well as to stop letting israel be intergraded into the us military.
for kosa (kids safety act), it's suspected that they'll hold a meeting on august 3rd. this is only a markup, and not a final vote. however, please add pressure onto this thing unlike ever before. it's dangerously close to fully passing into law, and it'll ruin the internet for good.
as for the other subject, it also passed the house, with both republicans, and democrats voting in favor of genocide. it's sitting in the senate for now, and while i'm unsure of the date, there will be a markup on that as well. it is also dangerously close to passing as well. (as a side note, if you don't wish to feel defeated, please don't read the comments.)
that'll be everything for now.
Important note from a future nurse: if you are chronically ill, on a lot of medications, even managing conditions on your own, buy a drug guide. Davis's Drug Guide is what they had us buy for nursing school, and I've looked up every single medication I take in it. It helps you understand what the drug is doing to you, helps you understand side effects, reasons why you shouldn't take a medication, things to monitor for while you're taking a medication. It's not perfect by any means, but the thing I've found is that it's helped me guide conversations with providers, nurses, pharmacists, it's helped me figure out what questions to ask. When I've heard people talk about what they didnt know about their meds, what they wish they knew about their meds, it's often in a drug guide.
Out of everything I've learned in nursing school, it is the biggest thing I'd advocate for having in any home, period.

Ron had meant well, taking Harry out to the pub. A pint and some deep-fried food would surely lift his mood after he’d been axed from the Aurors a few days ago.
“I don’t know what to do with my life. I thought that was it.”
“Mate,” Ron began, putting a supportive hand on Harry’s slumped shoulder. “What’s the thing you can’t stop thinking about? ’Cause that’s what you should do with your life. Bit like fate.”
Ron gave his shoulder a squeeze and waited for him to lift his gaze from his beer and say, Quidditch.
Harry did lift his head, his eyes going wide and his mouth falling open.
This is it, Ron thought. He’s having an epiphany!
“Malfoy,” Harry said.
“What?”
“You think I’m bound to be Malfoy’s husband?”
Ron gaped, unsure where exactly he’d gone wrong in this conversation.
Harry downed the rest of his drink—and he’d already had a few before Ron arrived—then stood and rolled his shoulders as though preparing for a fistfight.
“I’ll go ask him if the position’s vacant.”

I think this is so cool and it's awesome they're streaming games for free! I also think it's incredible that this picture is the one they used to advertise the opening day. It's like those videos where someone threatens the camera while their partner shows off their collection of rocks they found.
