Theres a jolt in the wake of the night, the type of a jolt that comes from a man startled into the waking world.
The dream Blue had just woken himself up from was barely comprehensible. And now that he was awake, the slipping memory had become even less and less comprehensible. It was like sand slipping between his fingers, hissing as it fell against tiled ground. He has no words, not even the beginnings of words, to describe what was now a lack of memory.
The only remaining thing from these quickly faded dreams was a lingering sense of dread, of alarm- of urgency.
Blue sat upright in him and Pink's shared bedding, his pinprick, whitened eyes quickly glanced to his side, a drop in his stomach at the briefest fear that he'd been left alone. On the contrary, that newer, pristine magenta beauty had been laid in her spot all the same. She was still nestled to his side, still practically suffocating in the amounts of blankets and pillows she needed to be able to sleep each night.
Watching her dimmed screen for a minute, watching her battery percentage tick up a couple numbers- it grounded him just a bit to sort through his feelings on the matter more intricately.
He was really good at thinking. Too good. People would call him a chronic over thinker if they took a look inside his head. So the fact that he couldnt dredge up any further thoughts than a single sentence was... kind of strange.
{"I want to see them again."}
His lip curled hard at the thought, the slightest tremble of his hands as he dwelled upon it. No. Want all you want, but you can't. You just.... cant....
He glanced back over at her again, another tick of Pink's percentage going up. Sound asleep.
So he did. In the dim light of the apartment, without bothering with the lightswitch, Four had lowered himself down from their bed and walked back to the living room. He hesitated at the sound of creaking below his feet- still has to remind himself sometimes that he didnt need to sneak around anymore. That he doesn't have to be afraid of the creaking boards. Cant shake the feeling, though.
And in a moment, he found himself sitting upon their couch- and he then found himself taking hold of the remote. And then he found himself flipping to an ever so familiar network station.
He would watch reruns of his old favorite challenge shows from over 13 years ago until he regretfully heard the birds begin chirping out the window at sunrise.
