The Weight of The World

Stratt genuinely deserves so much more recognition than she gets. She's a scapegoat, she's a villain, she's a hero in all definitions of the word and I'm giving her all my money. Lets ignore how funky the Hail Mary looks. It's my first time drawing it.. 🫪

no one expects him to do this, not even himself but there is Danger (tm) and she did not respond quick enough for his taste so she is now in his arms/over a shoulder, and they are getting out of here expeditiously.

But a whipping boy, while yes, is effectively a scapegoat, is intended to be LIKED by the person they're scapegoating, to curb someone else's behavior.

If Eva is a whipping boy, she's being punished not to appease the masses but to set an example for them. It not "how dare you bomb Antarctica, how dare you pave the Sahara, and Pirate everything and bulldoze the law and kidnap the best and brightest, the whole world hates you, and the governments want justice and reperations" but rather, very simply, the world may very well look at her with awe and inspiration and appreciation, and the Governments of the world know they cannot have that with the uneasy futures comming.

She has to be set an example of so no one else thinks they can do this when the lights go out and the food gets scares and the cold starts biting.

The world might just love her, and they might just want to behave themselves dispite that, because, look what they did to the one they said they would allow to do all that, you think YOU could get away with breaking the laws to keep your loved ones alive?

And the thing is, I could see Eva agreeing with this all the same, the world SHOULD hesistate to fall into any kind if chaos, ans she would feel so guilty if it was in her name. She probabky would be aposed ti it if the government werent acting right, but if people are hesitant, then WHEN it happens, it'll be more likely to be THOUGHTOUT, you know, not random passionate violence.

Like if its 2020 and were skipping sending people to Mars, Jupiter, and we're sending people out to die in a whole other star system, and not even the like top 15 closest stars either, we're bombing the Antarctic, we're paving the Sahara, every scientest you KNOW is either on the boat working to fix it or waxing lyricals about the inevitability of our imminent deaths, like ragardless of the level of true understanding and regardless of the loud mouths calling for blood from the anonymity of the internet, what are the odds the majorty if the world just understand they're in danger and Eva Stratt is handling it.

Like they're famous. Their funny if onky as viral/memes, and actually proactively getting things done to stop the end of the world, and on top of it she's constantly surrounded by the world's three darlingest little sacrificial lambs who if not *singing* her praise, certainly aren't speaking against her to the public.

So she's got a PR team somewhere out there (maybe not actually on the Vat cause they don't need to be, but it's possible) responsible for keeping up the public image of her and the project. She puts in an appearance at (strategically chosen) events, she shares information in a digestible way (thank you, science communicator Dr Grace), maybe she even has someone running a social media account for her (she ends up as/in memes regardless). Everyone loves it.

I think she'd prefer not to be the world's whipping boy because she knows she can do more from outside of prison. If people like her, then maybe they'll listen to her, and maybe she can try and keep people calm and ration resources with her influence.

But she knew from the start that the governments of the world weren't going to just let her walk away from this as the most powerful woman in the world. They put her in power expecting to be able to use her as a scapegoat later on and that plan backfired spectacularly when she became a beloved public figure. She knows that means they'll use her as a whipping boy, so she set up the chess board such that her arrest and imprisonment would be the most beneficial possible.

(Also, if she’s the whipping boy, if most people like her, imagine the support she’ll have when she breaks out of prison. She might even have support to break out of prison.)
