The terms DSD, hermaphrodite, and f*tanari are terms that are incredibly offensive and harmful to intersex people, and your submission will not be published if you refer to your character with these terms. Additionally, OCs with both fully functioning reproductive organs are not intersex. This has not ever been seen in humans and is not possible*. We don't care if your OCs do have that setup, but don't call it intersex

*people can be born with a penis and a vagina, or a number of combinations of the two, but a human having a penis capable of reproduction separate from a vagina/uterus also capable of reproduction is generally considered not possible due to how genitals develop

I was wondering something relating to genetic world building. Let's say I have elves and humans, two different species just close enough to have children together. Would it be intersexist to state that theses children have higher chances to be intersex due to the mix of species?

(it's not about elves but it's a close enough parralel and I didn't want to overcomplicate the Ask lol)

Mmmmmmmkay Okay okay okay. So. Like. Giving you all the benefit of the doubt as a biology nerd myself. I Think That ENTIRELY depends on the reason why you're deciding that to be the case. More importantly, *how?* Are you tempted to go a mule/hinny/etc equine hybrid situation where offspring are often infertile or sterile, due to uneven chromosome count for example? (which I feel like has its own implications on "does it count as intersex (in our world or just theirs)" because like. Are we accepting mules and such as intersex. Hmm) Or are they genetically similar enough that resulting offspring are often fertile, and if so what exactly are you going for intersex variation wise? Is there something about one or the other species' genes that may make this or these traits more likely to occur?

the term "testicular feminization" was either coined or at the very least used as far back 1779, according to wikipedia, but wasnt given a full description until 1953

In my heart Amir Beckett is an intersex trans man. i dont have anything else to add im just of the opinion that there needs to be more intersex hc’s in the world and i <3 sharing mine

I have a species of humanoid ocs that have many avian features. And I have an oc within this group who is based on the concept of a bilateral gynandromorph cardinal! I love them very dearly, and have taken into account the presentation of this in their avian features, but am unsure how this may manifest in humanoid features.

Is there one or more intersex variations that may suit this OC’s avian features while still being accurate to human anatomy, as well as being completely respectful of proper representation?

If you have resources they would be greatly appreciated!

bilateral gynandromorphs happen because birds have a separate type of chromosomes than humans do, mammals have xx/xy while birds and a bunch of other shit has zz and zw. im not huge on biology and dont know how exactly it happens but i do know that is why we dont have bilateral gynandromorphism in mammals. not to say you shouldnt give it to your humanoid ocs i think the concept is awesome but i do think youll probably have to make up some fictional variation or do some worldbuilding.

while not listed as an intersex variation and is pretty rare, you could go with polands syndrome which among other things can lead to one chest muscle being underdeveloped

another thing you can do is since in birds its a chromosome thing, it could line up to give your character a chromosome variation like xxy, xo, etc etc. interACT has resources on different variations to look into

at the end of the day this is your fictional species too so theres literally nothing stopping you from deciding any other variation can cause the coloration as well, you dont have to be limited to one type since regardless youre kind of ending up with a fictional variation anyway

I changed Keta's story a lot since I submitted that, I don't think that post represents her well anymore 😅 Both she and Lola are still intersex (with the same variations) tho.

Ive been trying to work out what variations to give a character i hc as intersex, and have been lookin around at multiple variations. I do think i’ll stick definitely stick with him having a duplicated clitoris, i do hc him as a trans man which, when i start writing / drawing him, i may have to like. Make sure to Put a note in that hes trans on t and has clitoral duplication, instead of a combination of a clitoralphallus and a duplicated clitoris.

But yeah, do you have any suggestions for what I can do here?

my first suggestion is since these are species you are making up, you can do literally whatever to signify male/female differences like you can just make some stuff up

He was born with a larger cliterophallus, which developed to be closer presenting to a penis-shape, though he can't impregnate anyone as there is no opening. He has PUGS (a urethra and vaginal opening that come out of the same hole, below the base of his penis). He went through an androgenizing puberty, but has also given birth.

I'm not expecting you to be an expert, but are these combinations of variations something that could happen?

And if so, what kind of 'core' variation would cause these developments? By core I mean like, a variation that causes the other variations mentioned, such as a form of CAH, a form of ovotestes, or something else?

Is going on testosterone blockers (and/or estrogen) something that would allow him to get pregnant, similar to how those with uteruses on testosterone have to go off testosterone when pregnant?

I promise I'm not trying to fetishize mixed genitals or male pregnancy, and that his character is more than just 'oh hes intersex man that got pregnant'. I just wanna make sure the intersex part of his character is accurate, ya know?

I only have hypospadias (from my current knowledge) so like. Any information would be really helpful 🙏

This guy is my character Leon! He's intersex and transmasc and has De La Chapelle Syndrome (specifically SRY-negative). He's also demisexual and birose.

He lived with his mom most of his life, and due to him having an atypical puberty, she kinda pushed him being a girl onto him and even put him on estrogen which further pushed him from the gender he felt he was. Now he lives with his dad in a kinda secluded small town.

The story he's the main character of is a slasher style horror with body horror elements that features another intersex character. He's basically doing the job of trying to figure out the murders outside of the police because he notices that the murders are very... strange. But the police are almost covering up how strange it is.

He's like very smart and an activist, also a loner but is still popular because he's just very nice to people. Except Lewis, Lewis can get exploded.
