The BEST trope is when a character tells another āletās run away together, we can leave all of this behind and start a new life somewhereā and gets rejected. And then the rest of the tragedy unfolds

i LOVE the idea of "i can't win, but you can lose" in fictional confrontations it is SO fucking tasty. the human nature to self destruct and the human nature to survive by any means necessary combined at its finest.
āare they lovers?ā worse. they were supposed to be and never got the chance to

enough of asking "would you still love me if i was a worm?" would you still love me if i was a pit in your stomach eating away at you from the inside? would you still love me if i was a distant memory you could do nothing but grieve? would you still love me if i haunted you for the rest of your life?
Characters that are gravely and shamefully convinced that they are dangerous, able to kill, have no control of their power, that would rather die than injure someone close to them. Characters that yell and scream and scramble to back away, throwing their hands up and crying 'Please, stay back, I don't want to hurt you.' Characters that think they are nothing but a loose cannon, a loaded gun, a ticking time bomb.
a small thing i learned from my sister dying is that i really would rather the people i love be a burden than be whatever the hell else they'd be if they weren't. yes even if it's messy and not always fair and hard completely inconvenient for everyone involved. even if it's weird. even if i'm rolling my eyes a bit inside sometimes. i just want you to bother me. please always bother me
like "it's rotten work" "not to me not if it's you" actually sometimes it's still rotten work. even if it's you. and i'd still do it a million times over
You know, when I see fictional characters who repress all their emotions, they're usually aloof and very blunt about keeping people at a distance, sometimes to an edgy degreeābut what I don't see nearly enough are the emotionally repressed characters who are justā¦mellow.
Think about it. In real life, the person that's bottling up all their emotions is not the one that's brooding in the corner and snaps at you for trying to befriend them. More often than not, it's that friendly person in your circle who makes easy conversation with you, laughs with you, and listens and gives advice whenever you're upset. But you never see them upset, in fact they seem to have endless patience for you and everything around themāand so you call them their friend, you trust them. And only after months of telling them all your secrets do you realizeā¦
ā¦they've never actually told you anything about themselves.
Adding onto this: characters who are so deeply repressed that they don't even realize they're not fine, or at the very least not supposed to be fine. Characters who do tell you about a situation they're in that should be bad, but instantly laugh it off saying they can handle it (spoiler: they can, in fact, not handle it). Characters who laugh with you and listen to all your woes and much later you learn that they were actually going through something at least equally bad at the time, but they wave it off and don't want to speak of it. Characters whose main coping mechanism seems to be "don't think about it" on endless loop.
Basically, the fictional embodiment of the "this is fine" dog.
a character who isn't used to being cared for or treated kindly being gently and tenderly cared for for the first time in years or maybe ever. save me

ādonāt go where i canāt followā is literally the most romantic thing anyone has ever said. itās like. iāll let you bring me anywhereāfar from home, far from the places and people i love, so long as you stay with me. iāll let you walk into danger and through hell, but i will not let you go where i canāt go with you. that is where i draw the line.Ā
if you are also being baked alive rn and you have to sit in a leather/pleather chair for extended periods of time ā especially if you don't have air con ā i cannot overemphasize the value of putting a sheet or towel over it. you do NOT want that shit next to any bare skin. there is no breathability whatsoever and few sensations are worse than peeling sweaty skin off it. (I think pleather may be worse for this than leather but I'm covering all my bases). plus you can dampen a sheet or towel to help you keep cool.
