Bethesda Game Studios developers staged a striking protest at the company's Rockville, Maryland office, putting up a giant inflatable rat ahead of a visit from Microsoft leadership. The demonstration, organized by members of the Bethesda Game Studios Union (OneBGS-CWA) aimed to highlight the impact of Microsoft's ongoing mass layoffs. Developers also planted 800 red flags outside the office, with each flag representing a person who has lost their job since July 2025. The protest comes as Xbox pushes throuah a massive round of layoffs affecting roughly 3,200 employees, with 1,600 jobs already eliminated and another 1,600 reportedly set to be cut later this year.

theres a lot of jobs i think would be cool to automate but the people being automated out of a job are given no alternatives because this is being done for the employers benefit not the employee. so we're in a weird situation where im lookin at jobs that i really dont think any person should be forced to endure and still having to go "well i guess id rather a human do it than a robot" which kind of sucks major ass actually. why am i on the side of employment. god damn it.
