and it'd be simple to dismiss it as cowardice- and it is mostly cowardice- but i think a lot of his problems boil down to, i want my family to love me. it's not enough to be a fantastic swordsman, he has to win. it's not enough to be his sister's secret, he has to be her one true man, the one she thinks about when she's fucking other people. it's not enough to be the heir to casterly rock in every way but legally, he has to make his father proud of him. jaime spends his life trying very hard to make his family love him, but he just can't quite do it. and he thinks cersei loves him but just not enough, if he just fights a little harder for her, takes the insults a little better, if he just works at it more, he'll be enough. and he isn't and he can't be. but telling him that achieves nothing. he's a coward because he won't face up to the truth, that he isn't enough and he needs to stop trying to be enough and start being someone who doesn't spend his life in a dissociative haze of self-loathing.
