He felt as though everyone around him was disappointed in him, and that he urgently needed to do something to regain their favor. But now, he had to accept everything as it was and try to endure.

They had been close since childhood. Their father's acquaintances had always marveled not only at how alike they were, but at their closeness. Wherever Cersei went, her twin brother always followed.

The last to present their works were Robert and Loras. In Robert's paintings, Brienne saw experience, varied techniques, and an openness to experimentation. He mostly painted animals and nature, and his canvases were mesmerizing: they were so alive that, gazing at them, one seemed truly to be standing in the depths of a forest.

Loras liked to depict people, poses, and emotions. He spoke with great passion about what had inspired him to paint each work, and he seemed to have utterly charmed the spectators.

Brienne strove with all her might to hide these feelings. It was wrong, terrible, and Brienne felt as though she had betrayed her dear friend. She forbade herself from thinking and dreaming about Renly. Truth be told, there was no sense in such dreams anyway: Brienne knew perfectly well who she was. Even if circumstances were different, there was no reasonable cause to flatter herself with hope—Renly saw her only as a friend. And it was enough for her to have the chance to be near him and talk. Love would fade with time; she simply had to wait.

She was seized by a desperate urge to turn around and make certain that all the guests weren't staring at them, waiting for some cruel prank. But it seemed she had even forgotten how to breathe. Brienne looked at the outstretched hand, then met the blue eyes of Mr. Renly.
