When will your friends ever
I'd love to see a TFP Insecticon with heavy scarring and shark teeth! Thank you for this blog you guys are amazing!!!
ā (Insectiqueen) "Strong, colorful, good territory, ideal conditions for an eggsire!"
ā Wait ..what?ā The insectoid Cybertronians had been set up on wayward island with the promise theyād stay there, and if they did they could inhabit it all they liked. Heatwave was checking the edges of the island, making sure the sensors thatās alert them of trespassers were untampered with,ā Eggsire?ā
āEggsire.ā He says again, as if itās the most obvious think in the world. After a moment, however, he seems to realize the red bot doesnāt quite get it, and motions for Heatwave to follow him deeper in the caves theyāve set up. Itās a small hive, not a proper swarming place, but itās enough for the little satellite group, a handful of them inhabiting it at any point.
Although unspoken, itās a great place to wait for if theyāre allowed back on that island filled with delicious mechanics and fun humans to scare.
They point to a few small, neat clusters of ovoid shapes, glowing like energon, arranged in small circles. Itās hard to gauge what they might be, at first, unless one gets closer and sees the shapes shifting inside them, through the translucent shells and energon. One of the smaller Insecticons is cleaning them, grooming dust off the clusters as Heatwave is shown.Ā āYouāre not Insecticon, but youāve good traits.ā
ā ohā¦Oh! A sire.ā Heatwave gently thumps himself with his servo then pauses,ā ā¦Black shell. right? I recall you not liking me much. Why the suddenā¦āinterestā?ā Heatwave is parts flattered, one part intrigued, and a last part wary.
Theyāre energon eaters, metal eaters. Heās seen enough nature documentaries thanks to Boulder to know 'femalesā eat the maleās. Heās gonna ask though, why not? Not every cycle he got this chance.
Theyāre dangerous, aggressive, they could just as easily have decided not to respect the boundaries drawn and instead gone for the main island as theyād originally intended...but Blackshell waits, head tilting curiously, visor bright. The one attending the eggs that already rest there chirrs, softly, and scampers off.
āI am ready.ā Blackshell announces, proudly, thumping a heavy, clawed servo against his chestplates, rearing up to his full height. He does look a little bigger, or maybe itās all in the showiness- heās even been shined sometime recently, his dark shell virtually reflective in places.Ā āI am...do other mechs...ā Gesturing at Heatwaveās middle.Ā āI have eaten enough to produce. I could make my own, if you did not want.ā Thereās preemptive disappointment there.Ā āBut you are strong! You won your territory from me, you would produce valuable brethren.ā

š: In a nasty blizzard (For the Insectiqueen blog)
He isnāt surprised to find them here, hunkering and curled away from the ice and snow. His own frame, plating tamped down with sheets of ice covering here and there- is frigid, but the warmth has retreated inside to keep his symbiotes safe and healthy. Still, he regards them with no small amount of wariness as he invades their territory- data cables flicking out to anchor himself.Ā
He can feel their low-level Hive hum in the back of his processor, like the flickering sound of a fluorescent light. He keeps his plating down, his posture loose but alert- and tries to telegraph that he is not looking for a fight. That he is completely all right, and will do no harm.Ā
He doesnāt know how well it work, considering he and Arachnid donāt care for each other very much, but if they attack him- he will defend himself.Ā
His plating flares willingly as heās groomed, parting to give room to their mandibles and thin claws. It feels good to be cared for, and while his higher processes are still offline- the rest of his frame-instinct realizes it. Ravage slinks around his pedes until she feels him finally start to wake, and then integrates back into his armor.Ā
He finally comes back to himself, process trees coming online as he glances around those that are clustered around him. His fingertips trace here and there, awkwardly grooming back as they begin to rouse around him. The large one that heās connected to sends him back signals about the Hive, and he parses the information.
On impulse, he sends a greeting through the buzzing broadband- to see what sort of reaction it would illicit. He has no quarrel with them, and in fact is quietly grateful that they DIDNāT take him apart while he was in recharge. He answers what questions he can of his symbiotes, allowing Lazerbeak out to perch over his shoulder. She chirps in curiosity at all of the milling insecticons. His fingers brush over her plating, reassuring.
He can feel them at the edge of his consciousness, and itās absolutely fascinating.
The ones he grooms purr and chatter at him, soothingly, flexing and stretching under his servos, and the one linked to him rouses curiously to watch as he wakes. When the sends his greeting, the lot of them respond- all of them, a flickering awareness through the hivemind of dozens of wordless voices echoing back at him.
The group mind snaps to attention eagerly, yielding to his presence at itās edge, making them stir in addition to the promise of the stormās end- theyāre all awake now, awake or dead, shivering and flicking plating and wings to stretch, ease aches out of joints held still for far too long. The large one beside him isnāt sure what to make of laserbeak and Soundwave may be aware of his thought process, settling upon a term for her.
Skitterling?
Close enough, at least, as he puffs warm air at her, curious. Somewhere nearby, an insecticon lets loose a warbling cry, excitedly, as they hit a form of consensus, and one of the living- now rapidly dying shields against the cold is pulled open, frontmost armor cracked and pried apart, filling the steaming shelter with the gleam and scent of fresh energon. Strangely, even through the hivemind, there is no panic from the dying- even when the sounds of Insecticon jaws scraping and squabbling over choice bits grows louder. A dull sort of regret for lost resources, maybe, but no disappointment, nor panic.
Theyāre practical bots. Thereās no sadness for them.
ā I will soak you until you get the hint Bug. I-ā He grabs the horn and twists, using the traction in his ridged pedes,ā Letting.ā He heaves, cables straining. He can feel something pop and it hurts slag it hurts. Heatwave is committed though. Using something heād seen about humans and bulls. The stubborn aft that he is is going to prove heās the bigger bot and send them packing if he must. He roars with his lights and works to over turn the bug onto his carapace like back plating. Heāll deal with the others after he deals with this one.
The beetle-like form pushes, and bellows...but theyāre already off-balance, disoriented and struggling to keep a grip on smooth, wet stone. With a long, shrill cry- over goes the Insecticon, tail over teakettle so to speak, flipped onto itās shell, clawed legs thrashing in the air as it makes a plaintive, frustrated series of squeals.
The smaller one whoās watching perks up- and lets out a warbling sound- half amused and half irritated, hurrying to try and right their flipped friend, who seems more intent upon thrashing irritably. Blackshell could right himself, continue fighting, but...instinct tells him heās already lost.
Cautiously, the smaller one looks over Heatwave...and decides that theyāre not interested in a fair fight, turning to altmode and buzzing away, deeper into the tunnels, seeking their third member. WAIAIAIAAIAIAIAIAIA- itās cries echo.
Blackshell goes still and grumbles. If itās possible for a bug to pout, this would be it.

He doesnāt know how well it work, considering he and Arachnid donāt care for each other very much, but if they attack him- he will defend himself.Ā
His helm comes up at their shuffling, the quiet hissing speech that catches his audials like a soft chuff of wind. He shifts his weight, feeling ice sheet off of his plating as he subspaces some of his mass to seem a bit smaller. He isnāt like Lord Megatron, with his mass-shifting abilities, but he can shed some. There is a momentary debate in which he decides the concept of freezing to death, or easing into the Insecticons and being a potential meal.
Potential meal winds out at the next hard gust. It doesnāt send the mech flying away, but he does rock as the gust catches the wind plains of his plating- making him stagger. He turns from it, steps slow and sure- careful, because if he moves too fast he feels like heāll fall apart.
Slim fingers dance here and there, reaching out to touch round beetled shells and segmented legs in a little gesture of gratitude. He nestles in the open space, opening vents to flare out life-saving heat into those clustered around him. His symbiotes move within his frame, their smaller sparks fluttering and the wheeled bond that spokes back to him comes alive with questions.
He answers the best that he can, shutting down a majority of his upper processing power, and regulating it to defense|protection|alert status. One servo rests on the back of the nearest insecticon, and his datacables find ports to lock into, feeding him back the status of the Hive. Ā
They close around him, a living structure, and welcome him into the warm, cramped, humid shelter theyāve made for themselves. Itās dark, save for the odd glimmer of biolights here, optics there, and they shuffle to make room for Soundwave without much fuss. In here, the sound of the storm outside is dimmed, a muffled howl, insted thereās venting and clicking, the comfortable chattering here and there, the buzz of wings flexing.
The one he touches, connects with, doesnāt seem to mind in the slightest beyond letting out a curious little sound, and resuming itās low-power status quick enough, lazily huffing. Another grooms meltwater off of soundwaveās plating, even though condensation coats them all every time one of the outermost insecticons shifts and a gust of chill enters.
The Hive, for what itās worth, seems either to barely notice his intrusion or simply not care, but when he taps into that itās alien presence is easily read, through the silent processes of every Insecticon there. They are well-fed, well-organized- Insecticons only appear chaotic to those who donāt know them, but even now theyāre neatly arranged- the largest, the strongest encircle, those closer to the center, those near Soundwave, are more vulnerable, or more valuable, and each of them is accounted for in the Hiveās presence.
Every Insecticon is accounted for. Distantly, they can feel the echoes of their brethren across the globe, sleeping in stasis or foraging in warmer places, a faraway echo, compared to the count being kept here among them. They all have an awareness- who is around them, who has succumbed to the cold already (bodies, frozen in place, still valuable for retaining heat within) or been lost in the blizzard.
And Soundwave, whose presence is noted. A guest, of sorts, if that could be the actual word for it.
His symbiotes twist within his frame, Ravage come online first and detaching herself from his armor. As the oldest, and arguably most intelligent- sheās the one that holds guard and watches over them as they slumber. Her tail flicks here and there, absently plugging in both to Soundwave and alternately to the Insecticon heās linked with.Ā
Itās the first time in a long while sheās felt her guardian go into the deep-defragmented recharge that he needs to parse the amount of data that goes through his processor and systems at any given time. Her plating flares a little as one of the other members of the Hive move closer to bolster his leaning frame and eventually provide support as he begins to slink down and go horizontal.Ā
Rumble and Frenzy are still in their half-stasis, pinging back questions back and forth across their hub-bond. She canāt answer everything, and only Soundwave can once heās fully conscious. But since the biggest of the Hive isnāt looking at her as if sheās an appetizer, sheās disinclined to see them as a possible threat. It amuses her to see a couple of the smaller members begin grooming his plating, though she goes to hide under one of the other beetle styled ones when they come for her.
She can clean her own plating, thank you very much.
They crowd around Soundwave, keeping him protected as one of their own, dozing on and off in recharge cycles among themselves. Several groom him, slender-tipped claws working at seams, mandibles wiping away meltwater and steam before it could linger or risk rusting- and while they initially try to catch the little symbiont they quickly leave her to her own devices. They share food, the glow of honeyed energon brilliant in the darkness of their bodies, passing food outwards to those forming a living shield, offering them necessary fuel and heat. A smaller one, more gracile than itās bretheren with features that would almost suggest a jet, were it not for the lack of proper turbines or wings, tries to coax Ravage with a little ball of fuel, curious, before snuggling up against Shockwaveās strange form and recharging with him- joined by other smaller breeds.
When the storm finally begins to die down, they grow restless, shuffling carefully around recharging forms, squabbling in little bursts of hissing and whines, but refusing to fight or scrabble, instead these little bits of unhappiness are soothed by feeding and grooming. Theyāre waiting for conditions to clear up enough for travel, and itās getting them riled.Ā The hivemindās awareness registers that itās lost a few more to the cold, and others are somehow marked, their brethren lingering close, opportunistic.
These ones wonāt be strong enough to travel on their own once the storm passes.
Insecticons seldom carry their wounded or weakened, however.
Itās already been determined that if theyāre to be carried, itāll be in the bellies of the others.
Send me a ( // ) To see a sketch of what I think our characters would look like fused.
āIām going to draw a transformerĀ decepticon, and iām picking the insecticon one this time because he looks so cool and there is not a lot of it around, and iām going to give him luvā And it was supposed to be a doodle of a night, not a 5 hours doodle of doom because i wanted to also draw it with itās mouth open because i will look cooler, and the teeth where also a pain, EVERYTHING WAS A PAIN, CHARACTER THAT I LIKE TO DRAW IS HELL TO DO. Or just i canāt do these :V, how do you people do it?
Going back to work now, and for my next shot i pick knockout, YOU DONāT HAVE WEIRD TEETH OR STRANGE HORNS OR SHAPE, YOU SHOULD BE OK.

Heatwave is glad for the protective edge of his helm. He locks servos, growling deeply still. EM radiating with the intent to protect and a fiery rage. He rears back just enough before slamming his helm against the metal mandibles scraping his helm.
Chew on that!
He heaves, pushing forward. Glad for the redundant stabilizers in his struts and pedes. Usually meant to help him keep footing on even ground when using water at high pressure; it lets him dig in a bit more. Cables straining in his arms and neck.
Roaring as he disengages and throws a hard series of punches. Attempting to slam his pedes into the mesh like plated midsection.
Blackshell reels with the headbutt, keening as a few dentae are knocked loose, claws scrabbling for a hold as heās pushed back and battered, before managing to catch his claws onto a hold on the cave floor, throwing his weight forwards and moving to grab Heatwaveās shoulders in massive claws, clenching and ready to rend and crush armor as needed.
Roaring- he pushes, trying to force the red bot off his feet. Trying to make a territorial display- wings flicking open on his back, iridescent green and orange buzzing.
Heatwave makes a pained noise as yellow warnings flash across the HUD of his visor. Blooming into reports on the damage in his shoulders and sides. He snarls under his vox, feeling himself bending back. The fan of the brilliantly colored wings makes him narrow his optics,ā Oh no you are not!ā Was this joker trying to intimidate him with a display? WELL. Fine. He turns on his lights and puts on his siren, itās choppy and dischordant on top of their other vocalizations. He doesnāt even give a frag! He wants a territorial display? Heās gonna slagging well get one. He lifts his servos to grip the thick wrists, bearing his strength down on them before lifting one hand to blast him in the face with water pressurized with enough power to quell a raging forest fire. Heās got traction in his pedes for slick environments. Does the bug?
Blackshell reels, optics going bright at the sudden display of lights and the deafening siren echoing in the cave confines, the other two shrieking in response, startled and howling- it quickly becomes a cacophony, as Blackshell tries to recover- only for his attempt to roar in Heatwaveās face, seeking to intimidate him, to be interrupted by a fire hose emptying right into his intake. The resulting WHARGARBLE is almost comical, but wet stone provides less traction for his feet down below and heās pushed back, scrabbling and choking.
His claws dig furrows into the cave floor, but top-heavy Insecticons are made for brawling and crawling. Rather than trying to recover his balance, he transforms and hits the ground on all fours, er.....sixes, wheeling on Heatwave and brandishing his altmodeās huge, curved horn, shrieking and wings buzzing again, even if he canāt compete with the spectacle of a fire truckās lights and siren.
One of the smaller insecticons has backed off, watching the fight with great interest, clinging halfway up the cave wall. The other...vanished off.

He doesnāt know how well it work, considering he and Arachnid donāt care for each other very much, but if they attack him- he will defend himself.Ā
The hivemindās awareness of him is dim, at first, the outermost individuals in the lifesaving phalanx theyāve clustered into regarding him as nothing but a shadow at first, the frost crusted over their visors half-blinding them before they shake themselves and turns- ice falling from them in sheets. They turn and follow him as they scrape their visors clean, studying.
Thereās a silent debate, a brief flicker of interest rippling through them, accompanied by soft chirring and whickers that are swept away by howling wind. When they move, steam escapes from the cluster, only for the vapor to freeze on them instantly, droplets sticking to them and coating them in tiny crystals. Itād be almost pretty, if they cared for things like that.
Soundwave is deemed to not be a threat, after all, theyāre tired, quiet, waiting out the storm no different than he is. Heavier, their smoothed shells clamped down to let the wind glance off, many of the outermost ones are in altmode, smoothly domed beetle-bodies compacted together. Soundwave is no threat to them here, they feel, all skinny lines and he looks so light compared to their heavy bodies several of them wonder if the next harsher gust of wind wonāt send the spy flying, whisking him clean off his pedes.
Maybe itās the instincts that demand they cluster and protect one another, or a lack of processing power here, where itās too cold and quiet for their Queen to care or for them to register Soundwave as anything other than a potential superior.
One of the largest ones, on the outside, reaches for Soundwave, movement clumsy but nonthreatening. āIn.āĀ He rumbles, voice crackling with static. The frost and cold have seeped into this individual's joints and mesh, touching vital systems.
Heatwave is glad for the protective edge of his helm. He locks servos, growling deeply still. EM radiating with the intent to protect and a fiery rage. He rears back just enough before slamming his helm against the metal mandibles scraping his helm.

Roaring- he pushes, trying to force the red bot off his feet. Trying to make a territorial display- wings flicking open on his back, iridescent green and orange buzzing.
ā As flattering as that isā¦Iām a Rescue Bot before Iām an Autobot. You know what that means?ā Hes big, they all areā¦but now theyāve threatened Cody and his family. Even if itās only off servo itās triggered his rescue protocol.
Serve and protect.
He growls, a deep bassy sub-vocal noise. It makes the hanging columns of rock vibrate when it resonates in the crystal structure,ā You had best step off. Before I make you step off. Iām not letting you harm my family.ā
The word rolls off his glossa far too naturally. He lunges, bull dozing into the bug like being with another snarl.
Blackshell charges him in turn, shrieking, barreling into him, raw mass and force- itās been some time since these scouts have properly eaten, though, and itās enough to give Heatwave a chance, a slight edge to push back as Blackshellās mandible try to scrape at his helm, huge teeth snapping.
If anything, they can appreciate the effort of protecting a family...but thereās territory to be disputed here.
The other two insecticons shifts back, cautiously, listening for any sign of other bots- where thereās one Autobot, there always seems to be a few more...just in case, they hunch, standing guard, letting Blackshell duke it out.

@insectiqueen ā What in the unholy name of Unicron are you?ā Heatwave canāt stop the comment. Heād been doing a check of the caves attached to the Firehouse, just a routine patrol to make sure their base was secure when he ran intoā¦it? Them? He backs up slowly, recalling the spiders in the Energon caves under the island.
The scouting party is small, a mere three in number, but three insecticons packed into a cave standing before a single rescue botā¦well, it made them look a hell of a lot bigger as they all bristled up and flared their armor and hissed, chattering and eyeing up the perceived intruder.
Nevermind that theyād only just arrived and started scouting out caves, just another scouting party attracted by any scent of energon or of other mechanisms. In their mind, so far, this island had already seemed absolutely ideal! So there were plenty of humans, they could be avoided. Or, failing that, there werenāt so many a proper swarm couldnāt solve that problemā¦
For now, though, they hissed at the red mech, bristling and backing away slowly. āI am Blackshell!ā The lead growls, clearly named for his darker coloration, mandibles twitching.Ā āThis is our cave!ā
Heatwave feelsā¦challenged. He ceases his subtle retreat, bristling,ā Oh yea? Well youāre wrong Blackshell. Iām Heatwave and my team and I were here first.ā Heās not letting a bug with an attitude problem scare him off.
He spreads his pedes, jaw lifted as he growls. Visor snapping over amber optics,ā Thereās younglings nearby and Iām not letting you āclaimā anything else.ā If these things got near the Burns family, they looked like they could seriously injure them. Not good!
Theyāre big. Heatwave has carried a mech a pair of mechs out of a raging smeltery fire. Heās willing to stand his ground here.
They hold their ground, huffing and snorting as Blackshell takes a firm step forwards, unwilling to be intimidated.Ā āYounglings! We care not!ā Bristling.Ā āWe care not for autobots!ā Pointing towards his chest- Rescue Bot, Autobot, they look the same to an Insecticonās limited recognition of symbols and specifics.
āWe seek nesting grounds, and these are perfect.ā He growls, taking another step forwards.Ā āDrive off, Autobot. Ours!ā
