Inroad Agony

I told him things, things I used to tell her, but, "Mind you," I say to him, before I even finish, she'd already place to fingers on my lips as  light as how her eyes shine when she doesn't realize how mine shine as much when I see him.

I haven't told him that. but lately, her eyes had gone dull from doll, and her cheeks from a coyly blush to brazen rash.

A precise, precisely stark "thank you" after I've said I love you won't suffice for the night. All I need is the thought that whatever happens to us, whatever demon that contaminates the purity of our intentions and motivations of persevering in this relationship, I still have my peace of mind, and you have yours. Humanity has used the concept of language to communicate; we better use it.

"Can I invite you out again soon?" I asked.

"On a date? Or a hotel?"

"Both," I said with a smile. "The two go together. You know. Like toothbrush and toothpaste."

"Maybe. I'll think about it."

"You do that. Thinking is good for you. It keeps you from getting senile."
