about me:

hi! i'm saran (any pronouns). i spend 99% of my free time writing, thinking about writing, making playlists for my writing, rotating my other obsessions in my head (currently jak & daxter; voiceplay; and motionless in white), and sometimes spewing those on my blog as well. this is my primary blog (i can barely keep up with this one, so a sideblog is not likely in the near future), so be aware that you'll see everything that spills out of my head/crosses my blog that i feel like sharing. if you're just here for the writing, that's cool, too! all of my original writing is tagged #my writing, and all longform works and snippets are tagged with their titles. i'm open to tag games, asks, and dms for anything and everything, even if you just need to talk 💜

about the writing:

i both read and write most genres, but fantasy and speculative fiction are my favorite (with a heavy dose of monsters and the paranormal, whether the genre otherwise calls for it or not). i write both original fiction and fanfiction. my main characters tend to be queer, neurodiverse, disabled, or all of the above. i write with an adult audience in mind (my writing has a tendency to delve into heavy topics, including mental health issues and societal commentary, and several of my stories contain graphic violence), so while minors are welcome to follow, i would encourage you to self-curate your experience. i try to tag anything potentially triggering, but i am human and sometimes miss things; if you notice anything that you think needs a tag, please do let me know!

Middle East GQ put on their cover while he was begging the international community for help as he covered Israel's atrocities and watched his friends die one after the other.

No one who hasn't been following them understands how devastating this is to witness. They've become like family to all their millions of followers. The first thing I do every day is check if Hind, Motaz and Bisan are alive and ok. I'm not remotely exaggerating when I say these are the most heroic, indefatigable, determined people most of us have ever seen in our lives. I pity everyone who hasn't had the privilege to follow them. I don't believe in a God and yet the force of their faith has me praying that they survive too.

a b o u t : an isolated town is haunted by otherworldly canines incapable of dying. when connor hidalgo mejía comes back to life after being sacrificed by her old classmates, the town finds a temporary solution to their problem that will keep more people from dying: they offer connor and only connor to the animals. with her boyfriend's mother at the head, connor becomes the reluctant but not entirely unwilling idol of worship of a cult that begins to form around her. the people of her town really believe she can somehow free them of this haunting. but aurora vidal isn't the only one pulling the strings for power. everyone wants a piece of connor's divinity, a god is easy to manipulate when she's actually just a nineteen-year-old girl who up until last month only had two concerns: make it to tomorrow and get to know her estranged brother. the temporary solution starts to feel like a permanent one with connor soon not being able to find peace in life or in death.

Hey there!! I'm Ash (she/her)! I'm a first year architecture student who has always loved writing so I thought i'd join the writing community here!

Some things about me and my writing:

- Because of school, I definitely won't be super consistent with posting! However, I will always come back eventually, I promise

- Most of my stories are fantasy as I just LOVE the idea of magic

- I absolutely adore god awful protagonists. give me main characters that are terrible people, i beg you

ೀ hello and welcome to my account, i'm shreya, an aspiring author majoring in english! i've been writing fanfiction and short-stories since middle school but am trying to focus on longer prose lately.

ೀ i'm 19. aries. infj.

ೀ my hobbies include reading and writing (of course), listening to music (blues <3), doodling, flower pressing and watching sitcoms.

ೀ my writing style focuses young adult audiences. i mostly write YA fiction, romance and sometimes thrillers. i also plan on sharing wips whenever i feel comfortable enough with my wips– provided that i'm particular about sharing my work.

ೀ as for reading, i've currently been preoccupied reading classics or non-fictions for academic purposes. i also enjoy romance, mystery and psychological thrillers.

ೀ i made this account with the purpose of keeping my own writing consistent while simultaneously helping contemporary writers develop their own skills in order to grow and learn together. although i will try my best to be punctual about posting, college might keep me busy sometimes.

ೀ although my tips are not qualified, they come from an honest outlook based on my own experience and whatever i learn everyday as a literature student. as i am also minoring in psychology, some might also come from a psychological pov.

Like, despite what parodies might say, Katniss is nowhere near the stereotypical “unqualified teenager chosen to lead a rebellion for no good reason”.  The entire point is that she’s not leading the rebellion. She’s a traumatized teenager who has emotional reactions to the horrors in her society, and is constantly being reined in by more experienced adults who have to tell her, “No, this is not how you fight the government, you are going to get people killed.” She’s not the upstart teenager showing the brainless adults what to do–she’s a teenager being manipulated by smarter and more experienced adults. She has no power in the rebellion except as a useful piece of propaganda, and the entire trilogy is her straining against that role. It’s much more realistic and far more nuanced than anyone who dismisses it as “stereotypical YA dystopian” gives it credit for.

And the misconceptions don’t end there. The Hunger Games has no “stereotypical YA love triangle”–yes, there are two potential love interests, but the romance is so not the point. There’s a war going on! Katniss has more important things to worry about than boys! The romance was never about her choosing between two hot boys–it’s about choosing between two diametrically opposed worldviews. Will she choose anger and war, or compassion and peace? Of course a trilogy filled with the horrors of war ends with her marriage to the peace-loving Peeta. Unlike some of the YA dystopian copycats, the romance here is part of the message, not just something to pacify readers who expect “hot love triangles” in their YA. 

The worldbuilding in the Hunger Games trilogy is simplistic and not realistic, but unlike some of her imitators, Collins does this because she has something to say, not because she’s cobbling together a grim and gritty dystopia that’s “similar to the Hunger Games”. The worldbuilding has an allegorical function, kept simple so we can see beyond it to what Collins is really saying–and it’s nothing so comforting as “we need to fight the evil people who are ruining society”. The Capitol’s not just the powerful, greedy bad guys–the Capitol is us, First World America, living in luxury while we ignore the problems of the rest of the world, and thinking of other nations largely in terms of what resources we can get from them. This simplistic world is a sparsely set stage that lets us explore the larger themes about exploitation and war and the horrors people will commit for the sake of their bread and circuses, meant to make us think deeper about what separates a hero from a villain.

hello! i'm abbie, she/her, early 20s, new to writeblr but not to tumblr

i'm just getting back into writing after a long time, so i have no full wips yet. i am hoping to use this blog to get back into the swing of things.

i usually write urban fantasy/horror, with some general fiction in there too (but i don't want to rule out genres, i'll write anything if inspiration strikes)

my favourite things to read are gothic lit, horror, and fantasy, particularly those including f/f couples (but again, i will read anything)

This is a novella I've been submitting the last few months and should have some exciting news in October!

Genre: Fairytale, Romance, Horror

Anya has built a quiet life for herself, trusted as the village healer as long as she keeps her magic hidden. All of that changes when a strange traveler arrives at her doorstep. The man looks human, but Anya senses an old and powerful magic within him.

Intrigued, she allows Owen inside. He claims to have been an apprentice to a witch, and Anya, despite her suspicions, finds him to be a kindred spirit. They begin a romance, both finding comfort in one another.

Their peace is broken when a family comes to Anya in crisis. Their child has been cursed, and is transforming into a monster. Desperate to save the boy, Anya asks Owen for help. He can grant her the power to break the spell, but it requires blood and forbidden rites. Knowing that she can’t break the curse alone, Anya faces a choice with deadly consequences.

What is the first thing others tend to notice about your character? What makes them stand out in a crowd?

First thing people notice about Lana is either how built she is, or the enormous white coat she always wears. Sierra's spent at least two scenes so far just kind of staring at her muscular shoulders move up and down and wanting to touch them lmao. Lana also has a distinctive tattoo sleeve of entwined snakes on her left arm, but she almost always has it covered. Sierra's first description of her:

And with each snippet of consciousness, I saw the girl standing over me. She was tall, at least from that angle, with a fraying blonde braid, a nose like a chunk of marble, shoulders so wide I could have landed my Cessna on them. But despite her apparent solidity, she stumbled with each lilt of the boat and kept slapping the wall to brace herself against the waves.

Most noticeable thing about Sierra is the thigh-high boots she always wears. She has a bunch of different pairs with different patterns. The pair she's wearing when Lana rescues her are cow-print, and that combined with the way she tries to hip-shoot with a hunting rifle (she is not very smart) has earned her the nickname Cowgirl. Excerpt from first meeting (CW blood):

I don’t know what I was expecting when I ran to save this girl. Perhaps to dramatically pluck her from the sinking yacht seconds before her feet touched the water like this was one of her plays. Perhaps to find her waiting for me, a single strand of her scarlet hair loose from its tail, silver eyeshadow smudged by the whirling snow but still glittering in the starlight. Ridiculous, of course. But I did not, for whatever reason, expect the wilted body lying on the deck in front of me. I did not expect to see her face bleached swan-white by hypothermia, or the bloated gash across her bottom lip, or those ridiculous cow-print boots squelching with blood and river water. I did not expect to be the one to peel off her sodden trench coat, lift her like a sack of tubers, and dump her in a thermal blanket.

Hi I'm Emmy!

I thought I'd do a re-intro because a lot has changed since my last! The biggest change is that the release of my first book ever is coming up! The first in the A Curiosity Piqued series.
