After hearing that the manga for Endo and Kobayashi’s Live Commentary was cancelled, I was pretty sad. So when I saw there was another version (with two chapters) I gave it a try.
Guys. I hate to put down an artist who clearly had this title shoved onto them, but this reboot is not good. Apparently B’s-LOG Comic (the manga magazine) took the blame for the original manga ending so abruptly, citing “lack of editing skill”. Now, I have no idea who’s editing the new version but I certainly see a lack of editing skill here too.
Rumiwo Sakaki’s art for the original manga was standout. I never had any problems with the details or expressions, and the style was visually distinct in the industry. You weren’t going to pick up a random shoujo title and mistake it for Endo and Kobayashi’s Live Commentary.
This new title does have that problem. It’s bland, creeps into Same Face Syndrome, and they clearly copied the storyboarding from the original version. Now in benefit of the doubt, maybe that was a deliberate choice so that existing fans would recognize it and be drawn in, but as an existing fan it had the opposite effect on me; I was only reminded that a superior version of these same panels already exists.
That gives me the hypothesis that whatever studio producing the series is really rushing to get this popular title off the ground again. They got an average artist who can mass produce chapters quickly, reuse the frames and pacing of the original, and ultimately profit from Endo and Kobayashi’s Live Commentary’s existing popularity.
And I want to be clear: I am not against reboots. One of my favorite villainess mangas (The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen) got a reboot and I quite like it. Every time A White Pig Noble’s Daughter got a new reboot, I tried it. Sometimes a new version is the only way forward.
But the gap left from Rumiwo Sakaki’s art is too big to be filled by commercialized slop. It’s not moving forward; this is taking a massive leap back.
reblog this version of post instead, thanks

Rereading Carrier Falcon Princess makes me realize how important it is that the romance aspect does not begin until Zelline is in human form.
And that works because while Valhyle has no negative preconceptions of Zelline, she has SO MANY of him. Our falcon princess needs the time in bird form to learn and understand who Valhyle truly is. And that’s perfect for a setting where Zelline’s identity is hidden and she cannot speak; what Valhyle can learn about her in this situation is extremely abstract.
The beginning arc of Carrier Falcon Princess is simply about coming to understand another person in a time of duty and danger. Any possible love comes later.
Gameplay footage of Qinggong(lightness skill) from Jianxia 3, China's first wuxia MMORPG. The first one is Shaolin and the other is Wudu. The moves are designed to match each martial school's style. For Shaolin Sect (Buddhist martial monks, weapon: staff), their Qinggong shows powerful, solid movements. For Wudu Sect (from Miaojiang Five Immortals Sect in southwestern china, summons holy venomous insects, weapon: flute), their Qinggong is agile and mysterious, like controlling poisonous creatures.
Let me clarify a commonly confused pair of concepts 'Wuxia' (martial heroes/people) and 'Wulin' (martial world).
Here's a key distinction for everyone: 'Wuxia' refers to the genre of martial arts heroes and their code of conduct, while 'Wulin' is the entire community and world of martial artists.
'Wuxia' is the story – it's all about the heroic martial artists, their adventures, and their moral code.
'Wulin' is the world – the entire community of these fighters, with all its sects, rules, and rivalries. If you're learning Chinese, let's break it down:
武 (wǔ) means "martial" or "fierce," and can also refer to weapons.
侠 (xiá) describes a heroic person who helps the weak, fights for justice, and has a strong sense of loyalty and courage. It can also mean acting in a bold, free-spirited way, to command respect through formidable strength and virtue.
So, 武侠 (wǔxiá) is a genre that includes all of these elements — heroes, martial arts, and a chivalrous spirit. 林 (lín) means "forest" — a place where trees or bamboo grow together. When used in 武林 (wǔlín), it means "the world where martial artists gather" — like a community of fighters.
"Wulin" was originally the name of a mountain, later used to refer to a city. It first appeared in ancient texts from the pre-Qin to Han Dynasty. Simply put, it meant the West Lake hills in Hangzhou. After the Han Dynasty, "Wulin" gradually became another name for present-day Hangzhou — take it as the historic name for Hangzhou, a Chinese cultural city like Chengdu or Xi'an (All three cities have a recorded history stretching back over 2,200 years). It wasn't until the rise of wuxia culture that "Wulin" was adopted to mean "the world of martial artists" — the community where heroes gather.
People often mix up 'Wulin' and 'Jianghu'. Literally, 'Jianghu' means 'rivers and lakes'. But the difference is simple: 'Wulin' is part of 'Jianghu'. 'Jianghu' refers to the common people's world — where martial artists and ordinary folks live together. That's because 'Jianghu' is the opposite of the imperial court. Also, the term 'wushu' simply means 'martial arts'.
A friend asked me yesterday: "Is Murim the same as Wulin?" I didn't know what Murim was, so I looked it up. It turns out South Korean wuxia fans adapted the Chinese term "Wulin" into their pronunciation, "Murim."
So yes, Murim = Wulin. This word referred to Hangzhou, China.
This shows how closely Chinese martial arts culture is tied to real locations. Famous sects in wuxia stories correspond to actual Chinese landmarks:
Qingcheng Sect → Qingcheng Mountain, Chengdu
Emei Sect → Mount Emei, Sichuan
Tang Clan (stealth/poison) → Also around Chengdu
Shaolin → Song Mountain
Wudang → Wudang Mountain, Hubei
Even modern wuxia games follow this pattern. In JX3, Mingjiao明教 Sect reflects Persian Fire Worship culture in northwestern deserts, while Yaozong药宗(Medicine Sect) is tied to the herbal tradition of Changbai Mountain in northeast China.
Wuxia games usually feature a large number of martial arts sects. For example, Jianxia 3 (JX3) has sixteen, while Where Winds Meet (WWM) is expected to have twelve.

*searching for a new josei novel* this is interesting, the premise is like The Little Brat’s Sweet and Sassy
*reading the new josei novel* this is good but i wish the female lead was more like Ning Li
*imagining the novel’s ML* he’s sweet but not as romantic as Second Master Lu
*looking at the novel’s brothers* they’re nice but not as dedicated as our Mian
*hating the novel’s villainess* she’s not even as logical as Ye Ying!
me: huh why do I suddenly feel like I should reread a different novel…
OK OK OK BUT THE WAY MISS PENDLETON STARTS LIKE PRIDE AND PREJUDICE (arrogant rich man from out of town looks down on ladies at social event and makes disparaging remarks, so leading lady rebuts him) BUT THEN TAKES A TOTALLY DIFFERENT TURN (her gentle perceptiveness leaves him in awe and he endeavors to become a close friend of hers) SO THAT IT BECOMES AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT STORY
WHICH YOU CAN SEE BECAUSE WHEN SHE REJECTS HIS FIRST PROPOSAL, SHE DOES IT INDIRECTLY AS IF TO SPARE HIS FEELINGS ON ACCOUNT OF THEIR FRIENDSHIP
AND AS HE DECIDES HOW TO CONTINUE TO PURSUE HER, HE IS CONSTANTLY OF THE MIND OF HER PERSPECTIVE EVEN IF HE DOESN’T UNDERSTAND IT - GOING SO FAR AS TO SPEAK WITH HER MAID
THEY JUST ah i’ve been yelling too much sorry bout that
anyways. Miss Pendleton good story. go read.

A raging misogynist in this day and age… lol
The webtoon Miss Pendleton has the heart of Jane Austen and Louisa May Alcott in that it’s dedicated to showing the grounded reality of how the “romantic” systems of gentlemen calling and ladies swooning put women at greater disadvantage in the long run. Every woman in this webtoon, from elderly Countess Pendleton to beautiful Miss Lance, is at the whim of the men she is in proximity to, with their word carrying more weight than theirs does.
This is probably where other webtoons would have their heroines awaken magic powers or remember past lives, but in the real world, women broke free of patriarchy simply by getting jobs. And while I say simply, it was at the cost of relationships and social respect. “Spinster”, after all, became an insult after becoming associated with women who did not need to marry thanks to the money made from spinning thread.
Miss Pendleton refusing marriage and purposefully seeking employment (as well as encouraging Miss Hyde to do the same) is about a revolutionary as it gets for women’s rights in this era. That’s not to say I don’t want her to marry for love - especially if a dashing and romantic bachelor of significant fortune feels the same - but the sheer fact that she was prepared and willing to tread that difficult road to its end is significant.
Honestly, and I’ve never endorsed a webtoon before on the merit of classic literature, but if you’re a fan of Jane Austen you should give Miss Pendleton a go.

I can’t!!! Wait!!!!
a MASSIVE amount of manga series (at least 140, and still counting) just got nuked from MangaDex from DMCA.
some of them have no official english availability.
It’s important to note that official translations are not hosted on mangadex unless 1) the official publisher has the chapter up for free (and it links to their site, not mangadex btw) or 2) the manga is out of print and the license has expired.
Mangadex was doing their best to be by the book only for a bunch of Japanese publishers to try to nuke their site like they’ve been doing for every other anime/manga resource.
(5/15/2025) UPDATE: as of writing this, OVER 700 (that we know of) manga series have been hit.
Here's a massive google sheet with the list, as well as the reddit post I got it from.
Needless to say, this fucking sucks (understatement).
How is it possible to have 12 “updates” and not a single one of them is a new chapter 💀
The only mistake that Mairuma made with Caim is giving him a semi-viable love interest in Marianne Pheene.
Caim should be getting treated like Brock from Pokemon. His advances towards women should be unilaterally shut down as long as he continues to be this forwardly perverted, and treated as a joke by the rest of the cast. The ONLY woman Brock (and therefore Caim) should stand a chance with is a lady who immediately matches his freak by being into his exaggerated romanticism and excessive physical approach from the moment she meets him.
Do NOT give Marianne “badump badump”s for a man she was (rightfully) icked out by for several chapters. Do NOT make the mistake of thinking that she should overcome her shallowness by lowering her standards for men. Do NOT think that Caim somehow deserves to land Marianne as a result of the Heartbreaker Event.
Caim is better than other short-stack perverts from other fantastic manga high schools, but he’s still got a ways to go before I would call him a good person. The clearest way I see that happening is for Marianne Pheene (hot girl with good social standing) to call him out on his BS every chance there is and for Caim to realize that continuing on as he is now will not help him achieve his ambition.
HELL YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
