Akako hadn't been able to sleep the whole night, eyes wide awake and locked on her ceiling as she imagined hundreds— no, thousands of scenarios. she'd never felt like this before, this.. drawn to another person. those drawings, his drawings were so.. detailed, so vivid. they showed a level of grotesque violence that she wasn't used to seeing from a mortal and it was beautiful.

he was so.. honest in his work. it looked like he felt so free when he had a pencil in his hand if those sheets were anything to go by and to have that level of honesty with yourself, to be accepting of the darkness in your mind and put it down on paper to be seen, even if by oneself, it was like a breath of fresh air.

nanno was used to humans hiding skeletons in their closet, hiding their true selves and pretending to be something that they arent so to see someone embrace those skeletons.. well.. it left her fascinated, morbidly curious, and even infatuated. that guy.. he was so different from the rest.

she had racked her brain for hours trying to recall a moment where she heard someone say his name, literally anyone because if she heard it, she wouldve remembered it but it seemed that anytime someone had briefly brought him up, it was never with his name included. 'troublemaker', 'loser', 'freak'... those were the only things she'd ever heard him be called.

and it angered her.

he was the only mortal she'd ever met that accepted such a raw part of himself, that needed to convey it in such a way he couldnt describe in words and executed it perfectly. why did that make him a loser? why was it so bad for someone to not want to socialize? to just like what they like and not care about anyone elses opinion on it? to be left alone?

she knew why, of course. she wasn't actually asking herself a serious question because if she was, she'd have to say she didnt know the answer, but she did. all humans were cruel and she knew that for a fact— had even experienced it for herself more times than she could count. thats just how their species were.

the anger had fueled her, keeping her awake just as much as the obsessive feelings she felt bubbling under her skin. she needed to know more about him, to see him. she needed to protect him from those ugly eyes that looked at him like he was nothing, because he was so far from it.

the next morning was uneventful.. if you dont count her stomach filled with the fluttering of a million moths. she woke up, got dressed in her uniform, made her lunch, and gave her mother a gentle kiss to her head before leaving for school.

each step was torture. it felt like her commute had grown excruciatingly long, but it left room to ponder all the questions that had plagued her the night before. did he know her..? what did he think about her..? did he hear her?! oh gods, he heard her and thought she was weird, of course he did.. nobody just waves off somebody they dont know calling a drawing of a decapitation beautiful— but maybe he didnt think she was weird? he did draw it after all..

but.. did he.. know her name?

that last one repeated itself over and over again, driving her mad. he had to know her, he had to! she was the 'it' girl, the most popular, the one who got away with literally everything, surely he knew her.

but.. maybe he didnt like her? her friends were the one to say all those things about him, maybe he assumed she thought the same?

as if she would ever.. he meant too much for her to ever think such things.

the courtyard was so loud when she walked around the corner, filled with booming voices from freshman to senior. it irritated her almost immediately, but as her eyes scanned the area, it dissipated almost instantly. there he was.. akako clutched the straps of her bag tightly, red blooming across her features at the sight of him.

she stayed slightly hidden, watching him from afar, taking in evey little detail she could. the shape of his eyes, his eyebrows, nose and lips.. her nails dug into the bark of the tree she was behind as her eyes continued downward to hands that looked like they'd feel so soft against her cheek, just picturing it had her shivering..

it was okay if he couldnt see her, he shouldn't, not while she was like this at least. she was a mess— puddy in his hands. she wouldnt even be able to talk to him while like this so it was for the better that he probably couldn't see her.

for now, she'd let herself have this.

for now, it was enough.
