the delivery of these two lines has given me the headcanon that Dagon somehow heard Michael at the Eternal Flame and is unintentionally parroting Michael's cadence when they said it while rallying the troops.

As for the forgiveness scene with Aziraphale, I still have trouble fully understanding it but I don't think the forgiveness Azira was referring to is the same thing that Michael was... He seems to be treating the burning as something that's wrong and the act itself needs to be forgiven, but Michael's felt deeper and more layered with unspoken thoughts. I attribute this to the problem of cutting the 6 episodes down to 90mins and we as viewers are left floundering trying to figure out what was left out that would've made it make sense. But yeah as someone who basically watched s3 just for Michael, as much as I applaud the crew for their efforts in trying to make something out of the NG mess and limited budget, I lament what Michael's story could have been.

I hadn't even tried to imagine what they would've done if they had successfully gotten the Book away from Michael. I can't imagine the two of them sitting down with Michael to genuinely help and console them.

my biggest "missed opportunity" that I wish the show had gotten to do more was showcasing how Heaven and Hell were toxic not just for Aziraphale and Crowley, but for everyone: Michael, Gabriel, Beelzebub, Dagon, Furfur, Uriel, Saraqael, Muriel, Eric, every single one of them were victims of the abusive institutions of Heaven and Hell.

and not a single one of them got healing or closure. those versions of themselves all died.

note: these are just my feelings as someone who identifies heavily with Michael, I am not going to invalidate anyone else's opinion about the finale. I've seen the fighting, I don't want any part of it. this is just me needing to vent a little about the way my comfort character died

I was really excited for Michael to get their villain arc. their story that had been playing out in the background since The Beginning was something I really really enjoyed following and analyzing. I was ready to feel the catharsis of Michael finally losing it and trying to right the wrongs they'd been dealt.

this finale did not give me that.

Michael's breakdown was painful to watch. not even because of the writing or the things I was hoping to see, but the way that Michael NEVER got to be truly, truly heard.

did Aziraphale and Crowley try to get them to open up and talk about their feelings? yes. did they do that because they cared about Michael and wanted to help them? it did not feel that way to me.

they were purely trying to save the world and stop Michael. don't get me wrong, that was obviously the highest priority, but like.... giving Michael more than just placating them and "I forgive you" I will say that Aziraphale seemed to become a little empathetic, but the way that both of them were eyeing the book the entire time Michael talked about their struggles ruined it for me.

not a single other being in the entire universe ever cared about Michael.

they lived their entire life in service of God, in service of Heaven, and got nothing at all in return.

and then they died. at their own hand.

Dagon would come to the pub to study while she was in college and started hopelessly flirting with Michael as soon as she laid eyes on them

they live in an apartment upstairs above the pub

Michael decorated the pub, Dagon decorated their apartment

Dagon and Justine are besties and like to tease Michael with how well they get along (Michael knows that they're joking but it does sometimes get under their skin)

I'm torn between going super meta and having the pub be called 'The Angelfish' or doing something more clever-

honestly I can't choose which of Dagon's outfits/looks is my favorite, I like them all for different reasons. season one definitely leans into the ocean vibes more and I like the scales better. but the regency era navy uniform in season two with the updo?? so good-

okay, so I want to talk about Michael (shock, ik)

in the Job minisode, Michael is constantly correcting other angels on things about human culture that they get wrong:

let me emphasize... Michael is more knowledgeable about human culture than the angel and demon who—at that point—had lived on Earth with humans for 2500 years??

compare that to the Michael we see in season two:

they are completely detached from how humans work, to the point where just interacting with material objects is totally foreign and uncomfortable for them. they believe Aziraphale's lie about how humans work without hesitation.

they no longer have any faith in their own knowledge.

so what happened to cause such a total change?

I like to think that it was Joan of Arc. (popular idea in fanon, I know, but the idea that Joan of Arc's death drastically changed Michael for the worse is just so good thematically—)

and what was that Crowley said in s2e3? "Humans, you don't let yourself get too attached." I wonder if Michael learned that lesson the hard way.
