Magnus Archives fans, what domain do we think Robert would be chosen by? Because I have a few ideas and figured it’d be a fun thing to discuss.
Buried: He’s suffocating under the weight of legacy, his father’s expectations, the world’s expectations, the responsibility of Z-Team’s freedom and personal growth depending on him. Everyone has such high hopes for him, Blazer has such faith in him, Courtney seems to rely on him to stay above water, and every new expectation is like another stone placed atop his chest. The tiny space of the Mecha Man cockpit is claustrophobic and filled with memories both good and bad, a refuge and a cage all in one, all tangled up in the absolute certainty that this mech is going to be his coffin one day. He gets into the cockpit every time knowing that, but if he thinks too hard about it he finds it difficult to breathe in a space suddenly far too small.
Web: He never had a choice, not really. He was always going to become Mecha Man, that’s the whole reason Dad had him, his entire life (and his death) was mapped out for him before he was even born. Even after his dad died, he was trapped by expectation, by the script he felt he had to follow; good sons avenge their fathers, good heirs continue their father’s legacy, good heroes keep going even when there’s nothing left of them but bones and regret. Robert has never known free will, never had any control over anything in his life, every single aspect of his life has been set into motion by someone else. Even joining SDN wasn’t a choice, not really, it was the only option he had.
Eye: He’s been under a constant spotlight since he was born, from Dad’s high expectations and disappointed gaze to the cameras on every street and in every hand recording Mecha Man’s every move, reporters and fans and stalkers and villains all looking at him constantly, camera lenses always pointed at him, eyes shining with expectations he fears he could never meet. And all the while, no one knows the real him, the man behind the mask, and no one is allowed to know, because if Blazer and Z-Team and Chase all knew just how fucked up and broken and neurotic and paranoid and inadequate he was, they’d lose respect for him, they wouldn’t want him anymore. So he has to stay behind the mask, keep hiding, avoid being known at all costs, because to be known would be to lose everything.
The Hunt could also fit him too, or the End, but those were the big three I felt fit him best
