I will say if you’re in the camp of “Abuela/the family are toxic and should have been punished” or “Mirabel should have just left them”, I highly recommend you actually talk to some real Colombian people about generational trauma before you spout your personal projecting onto a children’s film. Because this is yet another case of y’all trying to make it about you when it isn’t.

However, I know many creators don't have many easy options when it comes shifting their work. Wattpad offers a readerbase that may not follow you to other website, and it enables you options that other places don't. Leaving Wattpad and Webtoons is not easy for some people, and you shouldn't feel pressured to make a decision that won't work out for you. Here are my conclusions on the matter, but you should make decisions based on your own feelings on the matter, not anyone else's.

Should you remove your fanfiction from Wattpad? I'd say yes, with a few caveats. Websites like AO3 aren't going to make shitty deals like this, and are easy to use and is an active comminuty. However, this deal is trolling for the biggest fanfics, those that would be the easiest to convert to a quickly made movie. If you write for a small fandom and worry your readers won't find you elsewhere, you are probably fine. I still overwhelmingly recommend switching to another platform regardless of whether or not your work would get caught up in this kind of thing.

Should you remove your original work from Wattpad? This is a harder decision to make, because there aren't a lot of platforms out there to host original work. It is always better to have more control over your own content. I would recommend considering hosting them elsewhere - your own website, using Patreon, etc. Look into indie publishing, as while that's not an easy path, it can be a successful one. Just give it some thought on what the best approach would be for you.
