Incorrect Macbeth

Lady Macbeth: Kill him.

Macbeth: That’s not who we are.

I need her to be conniving, I have to believe that she is welcoming and excited to see Duncan and truly blessed to host him (lie). I need her to be THE BEST party host possible at the banquet, until things get messed up. I want her earnestly distraught when she hears the king has been murdered (another lie). I want the other characters to LIKE her.

I think there’s power in playing her as robotic and cold, I get where the appeal is. I think the play is so much more interesting if you lean into her manipulation though.

Young Siward: Family?

Lady Mac: Idk I like his personality?

Lady MacDuff: Really???

Lady Mac:

Macduff: I would roundhouse kick you for free

Malcolm:

Macbeth: Did you ask Banquo?

Fleance: Yes.

Macbeth: And what did he say?

Fleance: No.

Macbeth: So why are you asking me?

Fleance: Because he’s not the boss of you!

Banquo: No that’s Mac—

Macbeth: I’m you’re smartest friend!

Banquo: Actually Lennox—

Macbeth: I’m you’re nicest friend!

Banquo: Well Ross—

Macbeth: Well, first of all, your feelings are valid.

Banquo: What’s wrong with you two?

Lady Macbeth: Macbeth and I agreed we’d never go to bed angry at each other.

Macbeth: We’ve been awake since Friday.
