since the break up with babette, victor had doubled down on his gym time to keep himself preoccupied. even with sultan running around, the house was too quiet. with his second gym trip of the day in full swing, victor finished up his run on the treadmill and headed over towards the water station to rehydrate.
@happieststarters
lilo was so giving up on the gym for today. probably forever! who decided that this was good for you, anyway? she was so gross and someone else had totally stolen the machine she liked. ugh, anyways. she was about to refill her water bottle and dip when she saw victor. "no offense, victor, but do you like... do anything else?"
Alice had stopped in their tracks in the middle of the sidwalk, head tilted as they admired a new, pristine poster on the cafe wall. "A festival? We've never had one of those here before."
Lilo popped up at Alice's side, squinting at the poster in the window before turning to them. "Sounds sketchy to me."
Cameron instinctively held a fist up to her mouth, brows furrowing and face scrunching. Oof. That was all she could think. Obviously, that wasn't what she'd expected to happen, and although Cameron was sure the other was embarrassed, she did her best to not make it awkward. "Fresh out, I'm afraid, but let me help." Extending a hand, Cameron pulled her to her feet, and picked a few leaves off of her shirt. "Sorry— hope you don't mind."
Man, she could not catch a break. Lilo looked up at Cameron's outstretched hand and willed the ground to swallow her whole. When that didn't happen, she took hold of her hand, pulled swiftly to her feet. Lilo's brain took a second to reboot as she reached over to pick leaves off her shirt, blinking before letting out a nervous laugh. "No, not... not at all, I loved it. I mean, you're very good at-- You should be a professional leaf picker forsure. Um, thank you."

lilo wasn't a fan of him, that much was obvious, but the things you do for love her older sister you care about and have an undefined situation going on with that you both are avoiding talking about like the plague.
"i'm here with your sister. i was dropping her off when she saw what was going on around here. i'm still here to help nani shut it down. you can stop being so defensive, i come in peace."
"oh, what a shock," she scoffed. of course he'd been with nani, where else would he have been! where else would nani be? what was she looking for in this man's mouth that she couldn't find anywhere else. lilo couldn't help it, she couldn't stop herself from lashing out. she didn't even know why... or maybe she did. she definitely didn't know right now (stupid frickin' cocktails). "in peace? yeah, right, narc. nani is going to kill me, you- you're just an a-compas. acom... plus. whatever, the point is, you're so not on my side!"
.
Even if Sofia knew that Lilo was probably exaggerating, the sole idea of what could have caused her to say that concerned her. While there wasn't exactly a despairing degree of panic, there was definitely a different type of disturbed noise coming from downstairs, people loudly complaining and asking questions and some crying and no music, and Sofia began to get really nervous, even more so than before.
"Oh... Is Anastasia okay?" she asked, wanting to think about anything else besides the fact that it would be very difficult to navigate the first floor with an even bigger crowd. "I hope nobody loses their job. I think accidents happen, and some things might just pass unnoticed... Though I do wish I had known there would be such a big storm happening tonight." There was no way to be sure, but Sofia had a suspicion she wouldn't have come to this party in that case.
"Yeah! She's totally fine... I mean, she still seemed like she remembered her name and it wasn't even that big of a plastic bat. Totally fine. I guess if there was going to be a freaky storm any night, it should be Halloween night. Definitely not the worst thing that's happened in this town, mind you," she nodded as if everything she'd said was super comforting. Lilo was acing this! Or so she hoped.
"Oh, you and me both. Not that I was looking forward to going home that much... Any excuse to stay out, really. Besides, it'll calm down soon. The weather, I mean. Everyone downstairs might need a little bit longer. Hey, do you want to hold my lightsaber? That might make you feel better."
Lilo and Nani had been stuck in a cycle for a long time now. Either they were at each other's throats, storming away and screaming bloody murder, or they were avoiding each other. When they did run into each other, it was awkward. Or weirdly polite. Either way, things hadn't been normal for a while. Lilo had really put some kind of nail in the coffin when she decided to throw that rager for her birthday... At least Travis had managed to fix the sink in the end.
Now, it's not like Lilo didn't want to apologise for real, she did. It was just... it was everything. Everything was changing and Lilo hated it, and she certainly didn't know how to deal with it. She wanted to scream or run away. She wanted to cut her own bangs or throw out everything in her room. She didn't know how to talk about it, so she didn't.
She had been trying to sneak into the house to pick up a couple of things when she heard the shrill sound of their ancient phone's voice message machine echo through the room.
"Hey, Lilo! If you're still free on Friday, I just had a morning slot become available. Is it still your septum you want pierced, too? We can go over the details again, of course. Call us back!"
BEEP.
"Hi, Ms Pelekai, thank you so much for inquiring. Just to confirm Thursday is no problem to go over your tattoo design. We'll send you an email confirmation, too. Just let us know if you need anything."
BEEEEEP.
"Hey, is this Lilo? I got your message about viewing the apartment. Would be awesome to meet up soon, we really need a new roommate, you have no idea."
BEEEEP.
Fucking hell. There couldn't possibly be any more mess... Lilo had walked into the living room with every intention of deleting every last one when she realised that she wasn't alone. That the machine hadn't just, like, turned itself on. That Nani was right there listening to every last word.
"Oh, shit." @themanagerisavampirex
Are you resentful that you never had a shot with rachel?
"I don't know what you're talking about. I don't even know a Rachel!!"
What is the most embarrassing thing you've ever done in front of a crush?
"Are you serious? How much freakin' time do you have? I don't even know where to begin... Like, everything I've ever said ever? 'Love you, bye!' before running away!? Just kill me now. Kick flipping a skateboard with zero training? Biting it about a hundred times? Forming 0 comprehensible sentences in front of any woman ever? Ugggghhhhh, ask something else, man."

Alice took the little triangle sandwiches on their little round plate, glanced at them, but didn’t take a bite. Not yet, at least. They looked sharp enough, indeed, but Alice’s stomach was rolling all sorts of waves, and a tiny sail shaped piece of bread would simply get caught up in the waves of nausea. Alice nodded a few seconds too late to be considered a regular response time.
“I wouldn’t even know where to start…” Alice admitted, still staring intently at the sandwich. “Heck, I didn’t even know I’d ever felt groovy until now when I’m not feeling groovy…” Alice thought nothing of the description. No, that was a lie, Alice was thinking too much about the description but not in the way that Lilo was concerned. It wasn’t weird. But it was weird to suddenly realise how ungroovy you were feeling.
As Alice looked down at the sandwiches, leaving them untouched, Lilo wasted little time. The longer she spent chewing, the more likely it was she wouldn't fill the silence by saying the wrong thing. She had finished swallowing her last bite when Alice spoke, frowning at their answer. She couldn't help feeling partially responsible for Alice's turn of ungroovyness. Once you give a feeling a name, you give it power, right? "Groovyness is totally relative, right?"
Lilo let out a little breath, trying to think of something comforting to say. Maybe talking would help. "Well, why don't you start at the end. Work your way backwards, retrace your steps. Go from the finish line, back to the start line."
Candy corn was an interesting choice, but she didn't mind it. There were a lot of people she knew that were closeted candy corn fanatics. "No need for apologies," she insisted. "I like both, but I'm more of a sweets person. Luckily though a little goes a long way for me. Favorite candy?"
"Equal opportunist, huh?" Lilo probably would have finished off the rest of this candy corn if Abby wasn't now a witness. She nodded along, though. "Favourite candy? You can't ask that. Think of all the other candies that'll never look at me the same again when I don't choose them. My career will be over, my reputation left in tatters. Un-happy Halloween."
Abby jumped, a bit startled by the abruptness. "I told you! You were forewarned." A small chuckle left her lips as she held her hands closer to her chest. "I dunno, maybe I have a circulation problem."
"That's true but I don't think any amount of warning could have prepared me," she gasped dramatically, stuffing her own hands back into her pockets. "We need to get you some emergency gloves before your hands freeze up into claws."
"...So that's your worst case scenario, and you're still going for it?" Cameron chuckled, shaking her head. "Well I have to admit, your imagination is quite creative, but it's safe. No black holes over here. Though I can't promise there won't be any other surprises."
"Well, you better manifest the best for right now because I am not scared of a pile of leaves. I'll dive into them right n- OW!" Okay, so she had been going for a graceful dive but one foot went over the other and... she bit it. Leaves everywhere. "I'll take that black hole now, thanks."
How foolish they both were, in that moment, to decide that this utter chaos didn't need worrying about. It was clearly wishful thinking. The night would not end so pleasantly. "Okay, well I'm going to follow your lead on that then," Rachel replied. "1AM sound reasonable. I guess you've had parties like this before, right?"
Rachel beamed at the cupcake handed to her. "That'll work!" she said, 'clinking' her cupcake against Lilo's, as if cupcakes could clink. "But don't tell me your wish because I heard once that they don't come true if you do."
"Parties like this? Me? Before? Uh... yeah, obviously. Totally." She paused then, shaking her head. "No, not at all. I don't... the other kids didn't want to come to my idea of a birthday party. So, it's really just been me and Nani and... wow, embarrassing. Just forget I said that, okay?" she took a big bite of her cupcake after Rachel 'clinked' them together.
She chewed slowly, trying not to talk with her mouth full - last thing she needed in the world was to spray crumbs at Rachel - when she spoke. Lilo nodded enthusiastically, trying to quickly swallow to respond. "That-... That is true. I won't...," she started, trailing off. Her wish. Her wish. Her big birthday wish. Lilo had been staring at Rachel, she was totally staring, when she crashed back into reality. "Um, anyway! Have a great night, love you, bye!" And before she could literally die on the spot from embarrassment, she was gone.

nani was furious and he didn't blame her for it. if anything he wasfully supporting the level of anger she had reached after witnessing what was unfolding. this wasn't just a party, this was a full on rager that had clearly spun out of control, there was no dismissing that. paxton parked up the car and off nani went on her one woman rampage while he climbed out the car and started his muscle man back up for nani.
people took one look at him and started running for the hills. not an uncommon thing to happen, but he was livid on nani's behalf. no matter what they were, he still found it shitty that she can't even have a night off to go have fun and lilo was wrecking the place. having just thrown someone over a hedge, paxton turned and came face to face with the younger pelekai.
"well if it isn't the dead woman walking. your sister is on the warpath for you"
lilo was totally drunk and super dead. and now twenty-one years old. most of all, she was totally irrational right now. all she could think as she looked at him, listened to him, was that he wasn't her fricking father. who the hell even was he? like, seriously? and even though she wanted this party to end - it was so obviously over - why was he here, helping to end it?
and most, most, of all... why did her sister even like this walking... walking... frowny face!
"yeah no frickin' duh, captain state the obvious," she huffed. "what the hell are you doing here, anyway?"
"YOU!"
The words echoed throughout the town, the country, the whole damn world! The room shook, the 'guests' around Lilo had already been terrified out of Nani's way. They were making a swift run for the exit whether that was the windows or the doors. They were almost blocking the way. They were leaving Lilo out to dry.
Only a few split seconds passed but it felt like an eternity. The rage was palpable. The anticipation was killer. Lilo felt like their eyes had been locked in battle until at last, adrenaline kicked back in.
Nope!!!
She turned on her heel, running faster than she'd ever ran in her life, pushing through the crowds, jumping over Travis' feet. The wild goose chase was afoot.
Nani gave Lilo a generous 3 second headstart before taking off in an Olympians-would-be-jealous sprint. The pair tore through the house, hurdling chairs and taking out anyone who was dim enough to get in their way.
Only one of them was making it out of this party alive, and it sure as hell wasn't Lilo.
"Lilo, I am so finished with you!" she called after her, cursing her sister's blithe weaving in and out of the crowds. "Once I get my hands you, it is so over! I'm going to kill you, and then I'm going to bring you back to clean up the mess, and then I'm going to kill you again!!"
