He's not used to celebrating holidays. He tries to, when he's got a special person in his life, but he doesn't always succeed. Whether it'd be Christmas presents or, in this case, Valentine's day plans.

Sometimes 14th February rolls around without him even realizing, until it's already evening and he's walking home from a case. In those situations, he just has to pray and hope that he passes some store that sells anything resembling flowers. Maybe some chocolates or a card. Unless they're all sold out. And considering most men are like him, most of the time they are. Sometimes he even goes through multiple stores, slowly growing more and more anxious as he tries to find anything that could make him seem less of a douchebag.

Finally, after grabbing the last sad small bouquet of flowers from the closest store, including some sort of chocolates (that he hopes he got right), he's making his way to your apartment. He already feels a little guilty, imagining your reaction. Best be prepared for the worst, yeah?

Then you open the door, looking a little sad because you assumed he had forgotten (which would be mostly true) but to his utter surprise, your eyes light up a bit. It's not much, but it's something.

He clears his throat, trying to sell the act, "Hey, luv. Happy Valentine's day." No snarky remark, no sarcastic comment. He knows he almost fucked up. And so he hands you the bouquet and the box of chocolates. And you accept them.

They're not your favorite flowers, but you weren't expecting them to be anyway. Then, to his utter surprise, you give a little smile. A genuine little smile. It's not a booming grin, but he wasn't hoping for one either.

You lean in and kiss his cheek, muttering a soft, "Thank you, Johnny," and he's on cloud nine. For a spit moment, he almost feels like a good, proper boyfriend.
