There are people who commit suicide with poison.
Others who use weapons.
But, the saddest are those who use time.

I am currently finishing up some training in work, and the topic is on helping international students to avoid culture shock. They have just presented me with this graphic:
They've captioned it with "This is a bit of fun but it highlights the underlying point" but I am now completely stuck on "I'm sure it's my fault" - "It's your fault" - "Why do they think it was their fault?" as an interaction

This makes me so happy!! I laughed so loudly that I woke my dog!!😁🤣🤣🤣😁

as an east coast american, i'd kill to hear your valley girl impression (i have my own terrible accent but it's nowhere close (NOT BOSTON NOT BOSTON))
It’s time for an accent reveal
The science behind this in my head (as someone who’s not a linguist at all) is the following:
My native language (Brazilian Portuguese) is very mouth-forward, and when I’m speaking Portuguese it feels like I’m speaking with the tip of my tongue and front of my mouth.
So when I speak English, that’s the type of mouth placement I’m naturally inclined towards, which is where I feel like my Brazilian accent comes from.
But the Cali accent I learned how to do in LA feels like it exists in the back of my throat, and has a bit of a nasal/fry to it, which is easy for me to do because Portuguese is also a nasal language.
The LA accent is also pretty slow, but at the same time skips certain consonant sounds, so it feels “lazy” to talk with it.
So when I’m switching into that accent, all I need do is start talking from the back of my mouth, make it a bit slower, and bring that nasality which I already use in Portuguese anyways.
