Fatboy Slim played a free set on the streets of Brighton today as thousands shut down a far right march. Then he commented on our post: “So proud of our City today. No place for hate.”

Fatboy Slim, Norman Cook, one of the most tamous people to ever call Brighton home, was on the streets of his city today standing against the far right.

The legendary DJ, real name Norman Cook, born 31 July 1963, joined thousands of Carnival Against Fascism counter-protesters outside Brighton station today as South East Patriots attempted to march through the city. He played a free set on the streets. Brighton, as always, turned resistance into a party.

After seeing our coverage today, Norman commented on our post: "So proud of our City today. No place for hate."

This is a man who has given Brighton some of its greatest moments. In 2002 he organised the Big Beach Boutique Il free concert on Brighton beach which drew 250,000 people. Mixmag described it in 2022 as the largest outdoor party ever held in the UK. He has said that concert cemented his relationship with the city he loves. He has performed at the Amex Stadium. He has spent over 40 years making music, from his days as bassist for The Housemartins to becoming one of the biggest DJs on the planet.

Today he did not need a stage or a crowd of 250,000. He just showed up for his city. That is who Norman Cook is.

Brighton and Hove City Council is urging beachgoers to use bins or take their rubbish home after more than 20 tonnes of waste was cleared from the seafront during the May bank holiday weekend.

Brighton and Hove City Council published its official Seafront Investment Prospectus on 5 June 2026, covering the entire 13km coastline from Hove Lagoon to Saltdean. Here is what is planned.

Black Rock has been empty for decades. Over £18 million has already been spent on enabling works and the council is in talks with a major London gallery about turning it into a landmark cultural destination.

Madeira Terrace, one of the longest cast iron structures in the world at 865 metres, is nearly through phase one with 28 arches restored by end of 2026. Over £17 million invested, total project value more than £50 million.

The Brighton Centre generates £80 million a year for the city. The vision adds an extra floor and bridge connections to both the seafront and Churchill Square.

Brighton Marina is earmarked for 1,000 new homes plus thousands of square metres of new retail and leisure.

Pool Valley, the unloved bus station next to the pier, could become a public square, potentially alongside the rebuild of the Royal Albion Hotel.

King Alfred in Hove has 428 homes planned with a gross development value of £196 million. The new leisure centre breaks ground in November 2026.

On top of that, the Kings Road Arches are being redeveloped, a beach sauna opens in Hove Beach Park this year, and a Mass Rapid Transit link to Brighton Station is being explored.

None of the visuals are confirmed planning approvals. But the investment figures and ambition are all official.
