I don't think people appreciate how much kindness is an effort. It's easy to be selfish. Walking the tightrope of treating everyone with respect while not suffering fools or bigots is difficult. That doesn't mean it's not worthwhile, because it makes everyone's life better. Kind people aren't childlike and innocent and dumb, we are consciously making decisions every day to put goodness into the universe, trying to make our crapsack existence a tiny bit more bearable. Don't mistake my gentle smile for weakness. It takes more strength than you could possibly know not to punch your teeth out.
