Here’s my newest spoken word poem about how language is created. It was inspired by the book 'Louder Than Words: The New Science of How the Mind Makes Meaning' by Benjamin K. Bergen. The gist of which is that the same neural structures that create our vision, emotions, and actions are the same neural structures that enable us to acquire language by dual-purposing this sensory-motor system. Language is an invented tool that "creat[es] mental experiences of perception and action in the absence of their external manifestation."
