A piccoli e posati passi.
“You do not know / How little I loved / Before I loved you.”
— Joan Naviyuk Kane, from “Love Poem,” Hyperboreal

Mary Fedden (1915-2012) - Lillies in the Moonlight
The Great Gatsby (2013) - dir. Baz Lurmann

It Went Away
The real writer experience is standing in the shower and coming up with the most authentic dialogue with perfect phrasing and raw emotion in your head, then stepping out and drying your hair, putting on some clean pajamas and opening a word document to write down all your perfect ideas only to realize everything has evaporated.
I FEEL CALLED OUT
Never lose a perfect shower line again.*
*Remember to erase promptly if you share a bathroom with anyone.
I’ve used these to outline term papers. nothing like a bath to get your brain to finally kick into gear and figure out your damn thesis
WHAT
Also these handy little guys if you prefer a notepad:
Are you kidding, shower crayons are the BEST when you share a bathroom with other people. When I was in college, we had them and we would use them to carry on philosophical debates, finish song lyrics, get life/writing advice, etc. It was so much fun and I miss it.
I need these omg
‘No human is illegal’
yall ever heard about the wave
???? like the thing you do at sport events??
no, i mean this social experiment started by a history teacher in calofornia in 1967
im Intrigued
it’s creepy not so much like paranormal but as in it’s a scary look at human nature. hang on a sec ill explain it
alright so. in 1967, a new history teacher at Cubberly High School in Northern California named Ron Jones was teaching his class about the Holocaust and Hitler’s rise to power. At some point during the lesson, many of his students began to ask why the rest of Germany had stood by and done nothing, and how afterwards they could have said they didn’t know. Many said that they would never allow something like that to happen, but most simply couldn’t understand how the population had allowed it back then. This made Ron curious: what was the answer? Why had so many Germans joined and tolerated the Nazis as their neighbors were dragged away? He realized there was no way of knowing, not without being there, and certainly no way of teaching it - unless, maybe, they could experience something similar.
The next day, Ron came in and began to command his class differently than usual. He had stricter rules, making students stand when asking or answering questions and having them fix their posture. He said it was a lesson on discipline and the phrase “strength through discipline” was written on the board.
The students, shockingly responded positively to the stricter rules; it was as if they had just been waiting for this and wanted more. They worked as a team and answered questions correctly, even sitting quietly until Ron dismissed them at the end of class.
In the next two days, the phrases “strength through community” and “action” appeared on the board. Ron announced to the class that their new rules and ideas were now the cornerstones of the group called the Wave. Their mottos were the three phrases on the board, and he introduced them to a salute (made by curling one’s right hand into the shape of a wave and tapping one’s left shoulder with it). The kids practiced both the motto and the salute that day.
Everything was going well in this experiment: Ron was increasingly seen as an incredibly important leader, the kids were being more well behaved, they were ahead in their studies, all good things, so Ron decided to continue the Wave. In class, he gave the students Wave membership cards, some of which had red x’s on the back. The x’s indicated that those people were to monitor the other members of the Wave and report directly to Ron if someone broke a rule.
Additionally that day, Ron gave the instruction to recruit members to the Wave; all were invited and all were equal in the Wave.
And recruit they did.
Later that week, there were over 200 members of the Wave. The pep rally became an official Wave rally where dozens of new members were sworn in. As the group grew, most everyone joined. However, if someone did not join, they were likely to find themselves very alone and possibly being threatened or hurt by Wave members.
By the 5th day, Ron knew things had spiraled out of control. He had grown into a mythical leader, and the students carried out his orders without hesitation, even if these orders never existed in the first place and were grown from within the Wave. He decided to tell the students that there would be a televised announcement of the Wave’s candidate announcement for the presidential election, and that all members should attend the rally later that day.
When they arrived, the hundreds of students were greeted with a blank screen and Ron. He told them the true nature of the Wave; how it had been born as an experiment that had grown exponentially until he had to end it. The students were shocked, and some even cried. They had all believed in the Wave wholeheartedly after just 5 short days.
The Wave is terrifying because it is real. Not so long ago, a history teacher fresh out from college was able to turn a school into a military state in just 5 days. We as humans are so easily led into fascist dictatorships and we so rarely question what goes on around us. The Wave is a testament to that, and a scary one.
There’s a really great German film of the same name (“Die Welle” - The Wave) based on this experiment - rather than stopping after 5 days however, the teacher lets it continue and things get much, MUCH worse. It’s a terrifying movie, but fascinating too.

The Invisible Knight
Today is one of those days where the light coming from outside is strangely too strong for sleepy eyes and the coffee tastes like shit. The chitty-chatty of my flatmates is so lively that I can barely think of something. They can be sometimes so lavish and sore at the same time, driving me crazy like a bull. Example? "Have you seen Kat downstairs? She is G-R-A-N-D. I would have never thought of combining the colour of the nails and the lips." I mean, they can get excited for bullshit like this and they probably expect from me the same reaction. So I just smiled to this grand declaration and, for Chrissake, they are now back to their room and I can finally enjoy the black tasteless coffee in front of me. I'm getting so depressed in this moment though. You know, stuff like this can really put you down and it seems like nothing really interesting can come up to your mind again. Like never again in your damn life. Oh gosh, sometimes I can be so fatalist. I really mean it. Like, I have this huge problem when I meet someone. I have that horrible pretentious attitude that people can't get through their life without my presence after they've met me. Isn't it so fatalist and dramatic? I'm the queen of drama, or simply a dickhead. But after all I think people really love me, or at least most of the time. And I definitely love them too! For example, there is this guy I met one week ago. He literaly loves me with all his heart. I was in my favourite bar, dressed up fancy and careless at the same time. I was in the mode: look at me but don't get close. What a dickhead I am. I could feel those hungry eyes on me. I was enjoying it like a crazy chick. You know, everything was going prefectly fine. I reached the ideal tipsy state and I was not anymore listening to the typical philosophical conversations of my lovely flatmates. I was on the point of starting flirting with the bartender just for the fun of doing it when a guy sat next to me saying nothing. I new he was mustering the courage to talk to me, but I've preceded him: " I know whatcha tryin'a do, boy." Such a stupid thing to say, I've realized it while I was saying it. But he seemed so released by that, that the only thing he could do was smiling. A really bright and mischievous smile, though. The bastard, he knew perfeclty what a smile of that kind would have caused on me. I'm pretty sure about that even now. Anyway, I stared at him with this really terrific and still glance for an everlasting couple of minutes. I could not put my thoughts in a logical order. First because of that smile I told you about. I mean, I really know myself. Guys, especially when they are so innocent and nasty at the same time, drives me crazy. I can't help it. My chest was bursting into hells' flames. Drama queen, again. Second, I could not concentrate because of the noise of this bunch of drunk people screaming as wild monkeys. In that moment I could distinctly feel what my mum would have thought about pubs I use to hang out. My lovely mum used to say many things about young folks like me. But, of course, when she had to talk about me she was even too honest. I still remember the day when I stared at a cake on the kitchen's table for hours. I mean.. it was a really nice one, with a nice smell too and I was not particulary hungry. So I've just stayed there, sitting on the chair, staring at the cake thinking about anything and nothing when suddenly her voice broke the prefect silence: "You are a waste of time." That particular time hurted me a lot. Somehow since that moment my mum thought that the wall of politeness between us fell and she kept repeating that statement 'til the very last second of my departure. I got so used to listen to it that I've started thinking that "waste of time" was no long a deplorable thing to say to someone. I mean, if I were a waste of time, I was a really wonderful one. But anyway, could you believe that after those couple of minutes I was literaly eating that guy with passionate kisses? It was definitely a firestorm for both of us. A thunder that explodes in the middle of the night and other of these poetic and common images. He loved me and sure he still loves me. I remember what he kept repeating during the night: "Oh Reb, I wanna see ya again. Oh gal! you drive me crazy". And the way he said it was so convincing that I was having the same feeling. I mean.. I really wanted to see him again. So we tried to figure out how, where, when we could have seen again. You know, in a different place with a different atmosphere in order to know each other better, as if we had the feeling that there was an hypothetical "better" to know. I have to admit though that sometimes I was getting a little bit of that typical depression that catches me easly, but he was still saying the magical revitalizing words "wanna see ya, gal. I mean it, I wanna see ya". To make things easier to him, because girls we all know that boys sometimes can be really slow at doing stuff, I gave him my number and I was getting ready to head back home when suddenly he decided to say some more words: "Ya know, I've gotta do some stuff in this period, don't wanna waste lots of time. But we'll see soon, gal."
He killed me. That sonuvabitch.
