Physical strength is essential in Beastars. Sure, they are civilized, but it doesn’t change that Legosi who is a 18 year old school dropout gets more respect than Sebun who is twelve years older and has an actual education.

Louis is a creature of sin because he is weak. He is a short and skinny deer who was raised to be food and he could not let go of that. Being aware that you are less fortunate than others can be poison and makes you a lesser person.

It’s easier to be a good person if you have strength of some sort. A strong person can take risk and make sacrifices in a different way a weakling can’t.

Louis treated everyone like shit because he was obsessed with trying to not appear weak. He left Haru to die because he did not stand up to a lion. He ate meat because he did not want to be killed.
