āI donāt knowā
All ADHDers are very familiar with those three and a half words.Ā
My mom often used to get quite mad at me when she would ask me a question and all I could reply was that I didnāt know.
Why? Executive dysfunction.
We donāt know how we are feeling, we arenāt really alert to things happening around us and we canāt remember what the fuck we were just doing.
What do I want for dinner? I hadnāt even realized it was already evening, mom.
I made a meme to help cope with my suffering and I'm hoping that I ain't the only one
The tribulations are genuine
A low percentage of ADHDers go to college/ university and a lot of the ones that do, tend to drop out.
This is understandable. Memory problems and concentration issues make it hard for us to remember and pay attention.
However, the big issue, which is a culmination of all our difficulties, is that we get over whelmed.
If we assume 12 weeks in a semester, then with every week, we are a bit further behind.
With every late hand in or low grade, we get more frustrated and feel worse about ourselves.
Hell, Iād go as far to say that its the emotional dysregulation that worse than the focus and memory issues in the long run.
Being unable to handle frustration and failing means that we do worse as time passes.
This is true for all ADHDers but especially so in college.
This is so immensely relatable and puts perfectly into words a huge chunk of the problems I faced in school with my grades- throughout my entire life - not just college. I never really could figure out how to say this before. The cumulative frustration of repeated failure and hopelessness was absolutely crushing and eventually led me to drop out of my original HS in my 'super senior' year.
I love the universal gaming experience of āoh this game doesnāt have sitting so Iāll stand on this chair and crouchā

honestly minecraft is a good game and i will never forgive the internet for making people feel bad for liking a game about fucking mining and building houses
Ya know what? Good post OP.
Just want to share a fun story about Minecraft.
So, for some reason my school decided to get Minecraft. But before they could use it in classrooms they needed to test it out. That meant that my class was the first one to try it. After a whole hour of troubleshooting we finally got online. And you fuckin know what?
We loved it.
For a whole fucking hour or so a class of at least 20 senior high school students were just having the time of their life playing Minecraft. The guy sitting next to me had next to no idea how to play but we still fucking loved it.
I hate how some douche edgelords decided āMinecraft sucksā, because itās so much mindless fun and helps bring people together with how much they hate lava

How my joints make me feel when I first wake up in the morning
The simple act of NOT replying to an annoying comment online often takes more mental energy than writing something
adhd is:Ā choices are so stressful, like the more i have the more likely i am to start panicing and just not make a decision
It feels so good to crawl back into bed after your morning pee
People are more focused on looking rich than being rich, thats why theyāre poor. Wasting money on stuff that give the appearance of wealth. (source)

ADHD culture is saying āwhat?ā when you heard the question someone asked you but⦠It didnāt fucking⦠Register⦠In the brain? And then you hear the question before they ask again and interrupt them when theyāre talking because now youāre An Asshole⢠who understands
Someone: Hey what time is it?
Me: What?
Someone: Wha-
Me: Itās 3:20
This is actually a thing, while visual info takes 0.1 seconds to process, auditory infor can take 3 to 4 seconds to process, which is why you ask, and then actually hear the question because your brains only just processed it
My husband has ADHD and does this, and I hate repeating myself constantly. One thing that I feel has saved us from so much stress in our marriage is that Iāve just stopped repeating myself. After a while he caught onto what I was doing and stopped sayingĀ āwhatā over and over when I didnāt respond. Now occasionally heāll ask meĀ āwhat?ā when I said something because he actually didnāt hear me, and I will happily repeat myself for him, but most of the time I just say silent and let his brain compute what I said. So now our conversations go one of two ways:Ā
Me: Hey hon, where is the tv remote? Him: What?? Me: *silence* Him: I left it on the couch.Ā
OrĀ
Me: Hey hon, where is the tv remote?Ā Him: What? Me: *silence* Him: Ok, I really didnāt hear you that time, what did you say? Me: *repeats question*
Even if you donāt have ADHD, I mean, auditory delay happens with a lot of people, not just ADHD folk. If you deal with it, try this approach with your friends and loved ones. It has helped us so much.Ā
I jokingly suggested something similar to my gf called the ā3 second ruleā. If i donāt respond in 3s, assume I really didnāt hear you.Ā Tho Im p good at just masking the processing time with UUhhhhHhHhh
Also pro tip for communicating with ADHD people: say the name of the person you want to talk to before you share your thought and wait for them to acknowledge you. That way if we are distracted or otherwise occupied you know can be sure are listening. We very well may still need to process, but it will greatly cut down on the number of times we genuinely didnāt hear a word you just said.
THAT LAST NOTE
